It's been a long while since I've last been here but I've spent the last 2 hours pulling my hair out trying to figure this out and I'm hoping for a bit of help with this one. I have a question/response check (a human verification check) on my page and it refuses to work... I've written the code such that it generates the question and answer on Page_Load only on the first (non postback) load. I've generated a label which has it's text property pulled from the Question as generated on Page_Load and I'm trying to validate the answer from …

To preface this post I'm going to say that what I'm looking to do is purely in the theorhetical stages at this moment so I don't have any code to share yet. At it's basest essence what I'm attempting to do is compare Image A with Image B to determine if they are the same image. The catch comes in the fact that Image B may be at a different scale or orientation from Image A (could be higher resolution or landscape vs portrait). I've already determined that I am going to be breaking down the initial image(s) into base …

I'm the kind of person who almost always likes to use the 'advanced' editor when posting threads/replies. That being said, I've tried changing the setting from Basic to Standard in my CP but I see no option for 'Advanced' in there. The only reason I bring this up is because it seems that I still have to transition from the basic editor to the advanced editor when posting replies and I was kind of hoping there would be a way to set it so I always default to the advanced editor. On a side note, it seems when posting new …

I'm just curious if there is any easy way for the folks behind the scenes of DaniWeb to possibly implement some sort of big flashing sign that takes up an entire screen and plays a siren while activating the (on compatible hardware) sense feedback (vibrate) on the user's mouse. This sign would be used when someone chooses the Code Snippet option at the time of creating a new post. Preferably the sign would have large, difficult to misinterpret, instructions as to what constitutes a code snippet versus a standard discussion thread. I only ask because... well... in the past few …

Have you ever found yourself watching TV and seen a spoof or comedy routine involving an invention that you would just LOVE to see in use in real life? This one makes me laugh every time This Hour has 22 Minutes reruns the episode it was in. Anyone else have any? EDIT: I would've used the YouTube link for that video but apparently the folks at CBC (Halifax Media blah blah blah) didn't like someone posting it there and so, Canadians (and possibly people in the U.S.) wouldn't be able to view it. I found another link instead that works …

I know I can see any reputation I've received by looking in my profile and such but I'm kind of curious if there's any way to see reputation I've given? It may seem wierd but I kinda wanted to check up on a thread that I down-voted (and gave rep on as well) and can't find the darned thing (either someone else up-voted it and it no longer shows the -1 or it got deleted or I'm just looking in the wrong forums). Just a little quirk of mine that I like to check up on stuff here and there …

I'm sure that forms of this question come up from time to time and it's a very subjective question that has the potential to generate some semblance of debate but here goes... Having looked into a future career in game development (back-end coding as opposed to front end UI and graphics) I've come across various listed language requirements when looking at companies that produce games for various platforms. My question is this, coming from a C# background as I do and looking to get into game development, which would be the best language to look into learning? Some companies appear …

G'day all... I know there's a sticky in this forum for books that are recommended as C++ references from newbies to advanced coders. What I'm wondering is this... What are the online resources you most recommend for C++ coders? What I'm looking for are those resources that are so useful to you that you feel everyone should have them bookmarked as common "go here for information" type sites. Basically, I'm trying to self-learn C++. I'm coming from a C# background and I'm planning on picking up some resource/learning books as well but I'm also trying to build a directory of …

I'm sorry if I'm just missing something here or perhaps it's glaringly obvious to everyone but me... I've been ALL over this site trying to find some way to 'customize' which forums appear within the "My Favorite Forums" (purple bar at the footer of DaniWeb). IMHO it should be the same forums (if any) that I selected for my "Homepage Content" but it's not and nowhere in my User CP or profile can I find a way to select/remove forums from this list. It wouldn't be so bad if not for the fact that a couple of forums I've visited …

Good day folks... This may seem like an odd question and I apologize in advance for the limited information to work with in this case but I'll do what I can to give the needed info... My website http://www.bariby-quance.com has a journal/blog component that I built within it that, on all of the computers in my household and in 3 different browsers (Firefox, IE and Safari) has never once encountered an error. However, I have had a couple of people tell me they are receiving errors when using the asp.net apps I've built into my site and I can't replicate …

I'm just curious about the opinions of people in the programming industry as to what they would think of the following scenario:

User is an active contributor within DaniWeb (granted only recently joined)
User has supplied a large number of working solutions or at the very least processes by which solutions were derived for other members (for the time frame that they've been here)
User has shown knowledge and skill set within specific categories
Would it then be a case where that user could include their daily troubleshooting, debugging and code referencing work within DaniWeb as "Volunteer Work" or "Volunteer …

Hello, my name is Bariby and I'm a postaholic! I've been addicted to postahol for going on 15 days now with no end in sight. Thankfully, I'm also addicted to Red Bull and cigarettes so I've got lots of caffeine and nicotine to help me power through hours of coding, lurking, and answering questions in these forums :) Unfortunately I'm currently unemployed and actively seeking to break into the software development industry but having little luck doing so. One of the hazards of having a low-level post-secondary education in something is that you become "over-qualified" for things like customer service …

I'll preface this by saying that, while I know a fair bit about C#, ASP.Net, HTML, etc... I am a mere pre-novice when it comes to AS3 scripting for Flash. The basic idea of what I'm trying to do here is to create a simple children's mathematics game which runs through various mathematics excercises and uses coloured number tiles to 'fill-the-blanks'. I've already figured out how to allow the user to pick up and move the tiles, how to ensure that the tiles can only be dropped on pre-determined targets and return them to their starting position if they aren't …

Ok, so I thought I kinda sorta understood the reputation thing... I thought I did... As far as I could figure it was based partially on your own reputation, partially on your overall avtivity within the forums, partially on your status (member/moderator/etc)... But now I'm really really confused lol. Me: Power to Affect Someone Else's Reputation Positively: 1 points Power to Affect Someone Else's Reputation Negatively: -1 points This guy: Power to Affect Someone Else's Reputation Positively: 2 points Power to Affect Someone Else's Reputation Negatively: -1 points So, would it be safe to assume that how LONG you've been …

This may be a crazy thought but... um... Completely hypothetical situation here  Let's say that someone were to Flag Bad Post on a post that, legitimately, would have deserved it based on the forum rules as they stand... This someone was very tired and wasn't seeing things properly and thought the post had been made, say, today... But in fact the post was several months old in one of those threads that just kinda resurfaces here and there because it's an opinion type thread. Y'know, hypothetically  There's no way for a person to un-flag their own submitted flags? …

Attached is a screenshot of what I'm mentioning here. It doesn't happen for all ads (or maybe it's something that was changed in the ad-banner coding today) but with the specific ad in the attached image all of the menu drop-downs appear behind the advert and it is impossible to select anything below the first value of the drop-down as the menu loses it's mouse-over when the mouse passes over the advert.

I may just not be seeing an already created thread about this and I hope I'm posting in the right place about it. Just today I've started having some rather interesting statistic information showing up in my profile page that doesn't match what the real statistics SHOULD be. As an example:
Profile page shows "Total Posts: 215" Total count based on the central section showing posts per forum shows 119 (which is the correct amount) Profile page shows "Forum threads marked solved after Lusiphur replied to them: 20" Mouse-over on my avatar in a thread I've posted in shows 11 …

I've been building a custom journal application for my website which has a reply sub-app where visitors can post responses to my frequent posts. In the response sub-app I want to be able to incorporate formatting buttons (bold, link, colour, etc) that will take selected text within the textbox and add the appropriate format codes on either end of it. The problem I run into is, without incorporating javascript to manage the formatting buttons I can't seem to find the equivalent of textbox.SelectedText within ASP.Net to determine the selected component of the textbox for the parse/replace code required to make …

I'll preface this by giving a bit of an overview of what I'm trying for here. I'm trying to create a quasi-blog. Something that I can "post" journal type entries directly to a page in my website but without all the luggage that comes with the readily available blog engines and without viewer reply capability. Essentially it's just going to be an interface where I can enter a post which gets stored on a database and a dynamically loading page that shows the most recent post with the option to navigate to prior posts (and back forward again). Here's the …
