And a perfect opportunity for that page to show articles about:

  1. Getting more out of DaniWeb.
  2. How to connect to others on DW.
  3. Special offers.
  4. Our News Channel.

Those items or such could be formatted much like the "Related Topics" I see on screen while in this discussion.

This home page has felt like this since the changeover. DW's login system is now what folk expect so that's great but this home page screams like a hungry child.

Also, image upload looks broken. I couldn't find an example of what the markdown should look like so I just pasted in what Imgur.com gave and see it just hyperlinked. Strange.

Something that would actually really help me to fix up this algorithm is to link me to topics that actually are of interest to you, but aren't appearing on the homepage ... e.g. is the algorithm bad in such a way that there's stuff that you think it should be showing you, but it's not? (It should be noted that if there are new posts in a topic we think you'd be interested in, we'll display it on the homepage, but once you read it, whether you accessed it via the homepage or otherwise, it disappears from the homepage).

You visit DaniWeb too frequently. We don't have that much new content coming in lately. The algorithm has decided that there's simply nothing new that could possibly be of interest to you since your last visit.

It looks like it's set to show if you're either watching the topic or you've posted in it. Sorry, but I wrote this algorithm many months ago and forgot the specifics. The idea was merely for it to be "Recommended" without the nuances being of concern other than them being more likely than not to be of some value or interest to the viewer.

I've noted how the home page seems sparse but why is that lone upvote there at all? It's not that interesting and there's no way to dismiss it or fill the page with what I choose.
See attached screen. NOPE. The image upload looks broken. I'll try Imgur and it's markdown.

No other forum leaves this so barren. I was hoping to see it flourish over time. Or see controls, options to have it be a place to go often.

And when there are items besides this, they seem to be random in size and match as to my interests. It's such a mismatch that I've not getting the point at all about that page.
BTW, https://www.daniweb.com/articles/latest/recommended coughs up the Oops! page.

I don't see the Imgur markdown working either. Here's a link.

Give me a moment to investigate then. I'm wondering if the algorithm looks to see if you've posted in the topic, regardless of if you're watching it or not.

Probably because you have your preferences set to automatically watch articles you've posted in.

Actually, I don't.

Ok I have a a list of about 392 items that needs to be put into an excel form. I manage to get Column A (which is the inserted worksheet names) to name the worksheets that is automatically inserted.

I have attached an example of my table

When the code names names the see it also puts that same name in cell "N8"

From the table I also need for the code to put in the information from that same line to insert various cells from the table. When you look at the attachment the columns that is highlighted in row 2.

The code is in MODULE 2 of the attached file.

Let me know if you need anything else.

It's fine to use that as the selector. Use an #id when there is only one per page. Otherwise, using .classes makes sense.

The Javascript that you have does, indeed, not submit the form, and stick the value of data-idx into the idx variable.

I too am trying to create a search box on my website that will allow readers to type in search words and display results strictly from all pages of my .org. I think the last php code given above will do this? So I have created a page called "action_page.php" to process the keyword search request with the above php code you wrote. I am missing something because it is all not working. I can type a keyword in the box and click submit but no results. Do I need to create a separate display results page? Or can I make the results display on the current page? Or do I need to edit any of the php code with my specific web address?

My html is as follows

<form role="search" action="/action_page.php" method="get"> <div class="search-container"> <input type="search" id="mySearch" name="q"
     placeholder="Search the site..."
     aria-label="Search through site content"> <button type="submit"><i class="fa fa-search"></i></button> </div> </form>

Having just said that, I'd like to toss out the idea that the "latest posts" page you linked to above NOT display deleted posts.

Noted.

OK. Still confused (my new default state). I downvoted this thread but it still shows up when I enable the "recommended" filter. What exactly does this filter do? I thought the entire point of it was to NOT display low quality threads.

It shows up specifically for you because you are currently watching that thread, so we assume you have a specific interest in keeping tabs on it. Probably because you have your preferences set to automatically watch articles you've posted in.

And you posted this because....

Usually when someone is having a problem with their code they go to the trouble of describing the problem, including any error messages, etc., in other words, putting in a little effort.

Some of you guys have asked why the change doesn't stick

I could ask that you make this an option for mods but since I just added a folder to my bookmark bar with direct links to my "stuff" it isn't really an issue for me. The links to the forums are for "no filters".
