For no apparent reason all LAN network drives and PC's are now appearing in Win 7 Explorer as Media devices which open with Windows Media Player, not much use for accessing files! Lan is 1 Win7 64bit PC, 1 Win7 32 bit Aspire ! and a Sony Vaio laptop plus a WD elements 500GB drive on router.

Jump to PostSounds like you had associated the shortcuts with Windows Media Player. Take a look at your file associations.
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Associations
Jump to Posthi,did you try right click on the non media file and choosing open with ,and choose the program that should be opening them
