"Do you work for a jeans factory? [Why?] Because you're working your way up a ply in my pants."

The ultimate pickup line: "Hi."

Rationale: Canned pickup lines are a fantastic way to fail early in the game. Just confidently approach the man or woman you're interested in and strike up a conversation.

"Get in the van!"

The best pickup line in the universe ever is to be good looking and fit. My general experience is that it doesn't matter how nice, genuine or confident you are, women are just as shallow, if not more so than guys.

That's not a pickup line, it's a set of physical traits. The idea behind pickup lines is that for some reason or another (eg. you're fishing out of your league, your target is overconfident in their attractiveness) you need to build a case to woo them. Good looking alpha males don't need pickup lines because they naturally attract and are pursued by women.

it doesn't matter how nice, genuine or confident you are

Nice and genuine, agreed. Confident, not so much because confidence is an attribute of the alpha male, which would contribute to a woman's attraction to a man. See below for details on the theory.

women are just as shallow, if not more so than guys.

I'd say equally shallow, but in different ways if you consider the gender roles that have prevailed through our societal evolution (ie. the most successful familial structure).

Studies and experiments have shown that attractiveness to a woman is heavily influenced by signs and signals of wealth and status (the so-called "Alpha Male"). This makes sense when you consider the biological imperative of seeking out a mate who can successfully handle the protector/provider role for her and her children.

On the male side, the biological imperative targets signs and signals of fertility as being attractive. Men who would be dumped into the decidedly disadvantageous protector/provider role needed to be reasonably sure that their mate would be able to bear and nurture as many children as possible otherwise monogamy would be a raw deal for the man.

Of course, signs of good genetic quality and other factors are also important to women, and men certainly look for more than just beauty in a woman, but consider the following experiment (from memory, so please excuse any errors):

Women are shown a picture of an "ugly" man and asked to rate him from 1 to 10. The ratings are 3 on average when no other information is provided. However, when informed that the man is a very successful and rich entrepreneur, the ratings jump to 9 on average. Clearly wealth and status trumped genetic quality and even personal preference in this case, which works toward confirming the above hypothesis.

According to a very old joke, "tickle your a$$ with a feather?". If she takes offense you reply "I said, typical nasty weather". That breaks the ice for further conversation. However, if she replies "Sounds kinky. Let's do it" then further conversation isn't really necessary.

Is your name Google? Because you have everything I've been searching for.

That is a good techy one :)

Here's an even more geeky one:

Hey.. what's your API? Cause I'd like to make a dynamic link with you.

here is another good one:
(As she is leaving) Hey aren't you forgetting something? (What?) Me!

The mods may not like this one:
You make my software into hardware :D

Actually, your wallet is the best pick up line :)

LOL, that was pretty good.

I hope you realized that girl has to be like her (in the video):

Perfect Match

then maybe hearts bug will make sense.

Oh pickup lines, the best personality screen ever invented. Why not just straight out ask if they want to have sex with you? It would be much easier to remember and effect the same results since almost all women recognize a pickup line when they hear it and know what the point of them is.

otherwise monogamy would be a raw deal for the man

Monogamy is a bit of a strong word here, pair-bonding sure but as with many other pair-bonding species Homo sapiens isn't as monogamous (on both male & female sides) as they try to make each other believe.

Why not just straight out ask if they want to have sex with you?

ummmm.... sure it'll work if your a ryan gosling...

Do you really think cheesy/slimy pickup lines work any better?

A woman would be more flattered that way... the other way will send them away.

A woman would be more flattered that way.

Why would they be? All you did was recite a line from the internet, hardly romantic. Plus the whole pick-up line concept is fairly demeaning to women since the implicit assumption is that you don't care about getting to know her as a person you just want to get her to bed as quickly and with the least emotional input/effort on your part as possible.

If you on a girl's good side, that is good enough and flattering them with those internet pick up lines will make them feel good about themselves. If you demand something from a girl, you will not be on their good side... believe me, it is very logical.

BTW, the point of this thread is to be creative on creating pick up lines. So please don't be a kill joy ;)

There might be a few idiots out there who think that, but I think they're a small minority. Nobody thinks that a pick-up line is a one-sentence path to getting a girl to hit the sack with you, that's ridiculous. I don't think many people actually expect a cheesy one-liner to sway a woman romantically either, regardless of how mesogenistic someone is, you can't possibly think women are that easy / stupid. Even the few women that do seemingly get picked-up by a one-liner are knowingly doing so, e.g., they're just looking for a one night thing, and yes, sometimes that's all a woman is looking for too, my mother and her sisters used to have this expression when they were younger: "going fishing for skin" (from French: "aller pêcher pour d'la peau"). Guys don't have the monopoly on shameless pleasure seeking.

In general though, pick-up lines make for good light-hearted comedy, and I think they're more demeaning of men if anything. They're probably more used in sit-coms / comedies than in real life. And if you use them in real life, I think the only purpose they have is to poke the woman into having some sort of reaction like a little laugh or some witty come-back line. This does serve the purpose of starting things on a good note (if the line is of good taste), and yes, the point is that some important aspects of her personality is revealed (how she takes a joke, if she's more of the laughing kind or more of the witty kind, etc.) and at the same time you reveal some parts of your personality (your talent for delivering the line (e.g., being able to look or sound romantic (even in a cheesy way), or having good comedic timing), and the choice of the line to use can reflect some of your personality too). And the other purpose is to immediately indicate that you're interested romantically and you're not just making casual conversation with whoever's around. For example, in semi-formal mingling sessions where you make casual / professional conversation with random people, what if you find a very interesting / attractive woman there, you need to find a way to (1) start a less serious conversation and (2) indicate the nature of your interest early (usually expecting an early and clear signal back), a pick-up line that is funny / witty and in good taste can do that job pretty well. So, it's more about starting an interaction with something more creative and fun (and might as well make it flattering and/or forth-coming) than a plain and boring "Hi, how are you? My name is ..".

But I think the purpose of this thread is just to make fun of it all, with either super-cheesy pick-up lines (e.g., "Did it hurt? [What?] When you fell from heaven."), or lines that have the potential for a record in getting slaps in the face (e.g., "Hey, would you like to come to a party? [What party?] The one in my pants!").

Not suggesting you use these unless you want to usher a women away, but I'm hoping the moderators take these in good humour:

You make my floppy disk a hard drive

Or

Can I inspect your USB Port?

Best pickup line... i just realized this but it is, "hi"

"Do you take American Express?"

How about the traditional high school method of getting girls... show off some muscles, if you have muscles lol!

Yeah, I tried that... the girls just run from me, screaming...

They probably went to get more girls to admire you and you probably didn't see them again because they couldn't find you due to you scattering off from their radar.... lolz...

Well... try showing off the abs :) Works for me :)
