I would argue that data analytics is more important.

Hey nice to hear from you. So when I try pdfkit the from_file method it doesn't work, giving me the error:

    pdfkit.from_string(report, '/tmp/out.pdf', options=options)
  File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/pdfkit/api.py", line 72, in from_string
    return r.to_pdf(output_path)
  File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/pdfkit/pdfkit.py", line 156, in to_pdf
    raise IOError('wkhtmltopdf reported an error:\n' + stderr)
OSError: wkhtmltopdf reported an error:
QStandardPaths: XDG_RUNTIME_DIR not set, defaulting to '/tmp/runtime-service'
Error: This version of wkhtmltopdf is build against an unpatched version of QT, and does not support more then one input document.
Exit with code 1, due to unknown error

But it works with a string (using from_string), yielding a decent-looking PDF, provided that my HTML doesn't attempt any images.

I just patched my dev system and uname gives:
Linux 5.15.0-91-generic #101~20.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Thu Nov 16 14:22:28 UTC 2023 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64

Maybe I'm better off rendering in docx format and converting to PDF from there? My major constraint is that I'm trying to avoid hackish solutions. I want to stick as close to stock Ubuntu/Red-Hat as possible.

Hence both wkhtmltopdf and pdfkit as strong contenders, both of them being in the repos.

I am not using such right now but a buddy is and pdfkit works fine.
What do you mean by mixed results?

E-commerce web design should prioritize user-friendliness, mobile optimization, clear product presentation, easy navigation, and a secure checkout process. People often abandon sites due to complex navigation, slow loading times, unclear product information, high shipping costs, or concerns about payment security. A seamless and trustworthy shopping experience is crucial for conversion.

What I have noticed though is that some very well-known websites now display on desktops in a very large font, or the appearance of one..I guess this is mobile first, but I find it really irritating.-

You can always use Ctrl (or Cmd, if on macOS) and + or - to zoom in or out to adjust font size.

Hi everyone,
At my advanced age - I won't say exactly but am in my early 70s - I use light mode (and refuse to wear glasses) although I spend hours a day in front of the screen. It really wouldn't worry me to switch to dark mode. I work in a computer room with young engineering students who use it all the time.

We are always for dark mode.. According to us, dark mode is less stressful for eyes than light mode

Dani 4,084 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I think it has to do with the target audience. I've noticed that programmers, especially, are really keen on dark mode. It has to do with spending hours at the screen, concentrating on text, and eye strain.

It was in the plans to add a dark mode to DaniWeb earlier this year, but unfortunately I fell ill, and have had constant brain fog that has been precluding me from taking on any projects of the scale required to achieve dark mode. Hopefully it will happen soon.

Think of the reasons behind this. In fact I have in my office an old laptop from 1998 which reminds me of those days.

  1. Laptops back then had not so bright displays. Today with OLED, LED and such displays, it's often too bright.
  2. In smartphones, a light mode may reduce the number of minutes you get from the battery.
  3. Old people. Many have vision issues so let's give the users a choice.

Dark mode has gained immense popularity in recent years. Many apps and websites now offer both dark and light mode options. What do you think about this trend? Do you believe it enhances the user experience? How do you approach designing for both modes?

E-commerce web design refers to building an online store where the business's main purpose is to sell products in order to target potential customers as well as retain customers. The importance of e-commerce web design can be explained as follows

  1. Increase customer trust
A clean website with a great user interface will definitely increase the trust of customers. Customers have assumed that the business will be able to satisfy their needs.

  2. Ease and convenience
It is not shocking that the popularity of e-commerce websites has increased in recent years. E-commerce websites are one of the easiest ways to do shopping, as they are easy and convenient. You can do it from anywhere.

  3. A better understanding of customers
It becomes difficult to understand the customers when you are doing business offline. However, when it comes online, it is very easy for the business to understand the customers. On an online website, we can collect customer data like purchasing behaviour, preferences, etc.

  4. Sell Products Internationally
In a physical store, the area for selling products/services is restricted to a particular area. But in an online store, you can sell products internationally as there are no restrictions in the area.

Sometimes people leave the website without buying due to the following reasons

  1. Loading time
The first reason could be the slow loading time of the webpage. In time, the website's performance should be excellent in order to meet the …

Hi guyz,
why ICO file format is the original file format for the favicon?

redplanetpk 46 Light Poster

Well there should be a standard size for favicon that would be 16*16 pixels ..

sarahcuneiform 0 Newbie Poster

The best size for a favicon is generally 16x16 pixels or 32x32 pixels. These sizes are commonly supported by most browsers and platforms. However, it's also a good practice to include a larger version, such as 192x192 pixels, for high-resolution displays or when the favicon is displayed on larger surfaces, like browser tabs or bookmarks.

Ecommerce web design plays a crucial role in attracting and retaining customers. Several factors are important to consider when designing an ecommerce website. Here are some key elements:

  1. User-friendly navigation: The website should have intuitive and easy-to-use navigation, allowing visitors to find products or information quickly. Clear categories, search functionality, and well-structured menus can enhance the user experience.
  2. Responsive design: With the increasing use of mobile devices for online shopping, responsive design is essential. The website should adapt and provide an optimal viewing experience across different devices and screen sizes.
  3. Clear product presentation: High-quality product images, detailed descriptions, and clear pricing should be prominently displayed. Users should have a good understanding of the product, its features, and pricing options.
  4. Simplified checkout process: A streamlined and hassle-free checkout process is crucial. Lengthy forms, complex registration requirements, and a lack of guest checkout options can discourage users from completing their purchases.
  5. Trust and security: Building trust with customers is vital for ecommerce websites. Displaying trust symbols, secure payment gateways, and clear privacy policies can instill confidence in visitors. Additionally, providing customer reviews and ratings can help establish credibility.
  6. Fast loading times: Slow-loading websites can lead to high bounce rates. Optimizing the website's performance, minimizing page load times, and ensuring smooth navigation are crucial for retaining visitors.
  7. Effective search functionality: Implementing a robust search feature that accurately displays relevant results is essential. Users should be able to easily find products based on specific keywords, filters, or categories.

People often abandon ecommerce …
