If you're completely new to Java, an excellent book to start with is Agile Java(TM): Crafting Code with Test-Driven Development by Jeff Langr

I've tried the JAVA ENTERPRISE from O'REILLY pub. I think to discover Java as a enterprise platform you can use it(especially early chapters) it introduces Java capabilities and tools which are currently using in enterprise development.
