is it possible for me to use user-uploaded data ,such as tab delimited data in a text file, only in memory? this is because i dont want to save the files in the server.

It is posible, but memory may limit how many lines you are able to store in memory.
I would recommend reading the data into a physical HTML table object (not shown on screen).
