I have found the program ffmpeg and have been looking into it, and I can see that you can use php to convert the videos that are being uploaded but I want to know where I need to start with this program to get it working.

I never heard a program that used php to convert videos?

What program is that?

I used VirtualDub to convert videos but it's in Visual C++

its ffmpeg, it I have been reading online that it can be used to convert videos and can be stored in php code. I could be wrong. But can VirtualDub be installed onto a web server?

I think it's best to post this question in the Software Development section. Either C or C++ maybe someone can ask that question for you regarding about installing on the Web Server.
