Last week a group of six 'm-commerce' experts took part in a round robin discussion in Manchester, England to determine the best ways forward for developers interested in creating a serious mobile web presence yet wanting to make money through the medium of mobile advertising at the same time. Anyone who has been involved in this particular area of Internet growth will appreciate just what a serious challenge the mobile web presents to those who have not invested, in thought and deed as much as financially, in getting to grips with a realistic m-commerce marketing strategy. Unless you are creative …

Chinese computer manufacturer [Lenovo has admitted](http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/product_security/superfish) that it installed an adware component called Superfish on 16 million PCs shipped between September 2014 and February 2015 in order to "help customers potentially discover interesting products while shopping" according to an official statement made by the company. Although there is some argument to be had as to the validity of the 'helping customers' idea regarding software which injects third party adverts into Google searches and websites without the explicit permission or knowledge of the user, where there is no debate to be had at all is in the bloody great security hole …

Hi, I have an Asus laptop, it's about 7 or 8 years old. The only thing wrong is that it is very very slow so I want to do a reinstall. I thought a clean install the best way to go, I did a repair a couple of years ago with the 2 restore disks that came with the laptop but I feel a clean install is warranted now. My question is, can I use the 2 Asus Recovery disks to do do this, and if anyone knows how would appreciate help. I do have a Windows XP Home SP3 disk, …

ok i am very sorry if this comes off as irritating to some, but i need someone to reassure or direct me. i have learned some programming, very very basic to be exact and i have learned some c# and some C++. the problem is, I like c# because it is more productive right off the bat( i love c++ too.) because of vs WPF integration in .NET, but many articles on especially stackOverFlow talk about not learning properly or as good because c++ teaches all the pointers and memory control etc and youll end up a better programmer and …

I'm new to these forums, but not to html and css. Currently learning Python, with PHP next on my to do list, and I'm looking for some advice from fellow web developers on what would be the best programming and scripting languages to learn. I come from the graphic design/web content side of things but looking to expand into full web development. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks so much!

Hello! Pretty new to Python but I'm kind of loving it. Already involved in illustration, design, and creating web content for clients, but I'm hoping to expand beyond that into full-fledged web development as well. I know a fair amount of html/css, and was looking for advice on other languages (scripting or otherwise) besides Python that might help me out. At the moment I'll be tackling php and javascript next but always open to suggestions.

Hi, I am planning to build a budget gaming PC with the price limit of roughly £400. I have found a group of components that add up to make roughly £350 and I was wondering whether these components are worth there money, if it will be good enough to play games well on medium graphic settings and what needs upgrading for future proofing. The aim is to build a cheap PC and as o gain more money I can buy better components as the next gen comes out. Here are the components minus the PSU: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/western-digital-internal-hard-drive-wd10ezrx http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/patriot-memory-psd34g13332s http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-f2a85vpro http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/amd-cpu-ad641xwngxbox http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-video-card-gtx650e2gd5

Hi all, I've been playing around with PHP for a while now and never really studied hardcore (Just used it as best as I could on a whim) but I've now decided to sharpen the skill and get much better. I'm playing around with my first class and would like some feedback on its structure and general syntax. Is it a fairly good start? Are there any concerning issues I should be aware of? Thanks in advance! I've commented throughout so people are aware of what they're supposedly looking at. <?php class action{ //////////////////////////////////////////////////////// private function connect(){ $mysqli = mysqli_connect($config['host'], …

Apple, Facebook and Twitter have all been the target of hackers recently, and now Evernote has admitted to a potential breach that has forced it to reset the passwords of approximately 50 million registered users. Evernote, a kind of web scrapbook that enables you to take notes, save web pages and web page content, sync files across devices and share ideas with friends and colleagues, did the right thing in notifying users and resetting passwords. However, it did the right thing in the wrong way; and here's why. I received an email last night informing me that: > Evernote's Operations …

Was not sure where to post this, but let this a go. I m on my final year. And I have discovered in myself a passion for programming in C and started learning it but it is all in a beginning stage. I really bored of Java or I just don't feel satisfaction coding in Java anymore. But problem is that most of my course work uses Java. My 4th year project is in Android client for webservices, but so far it is hell a lot of time debugging and searching answers on stack overflow forum rather than learning:\ I …

I'm hoping not to post much code (to do this myself) but I'm having issues in figuring out why a mysql_query isn't be executed. This is the mysql_query: mysql_query("UPDATE `servers` SET `status` = 'online.png', `cur_players` = '".$online_count."', `max_players` = '".$max_slots."', `software` = '".$software."', `plugins` = '".$plugins2."', `players` = '".$players2."', `version` = '".$version."', `query_enabled` = '0', `last_check` = '".$time_now."', `uptime` ='".$add_up."', `gametype` = '".$gametype."', `map` = '".$map."' WHERE `id` = '".$serv['id']."'"); Now before the query I have set `'$i = '0';`. This query is in a block, so in the same block after the query I have set `$i = '1';`. …

What, in your opinion, is the best route to becoming a network engineer these days? Here are some observations on why I am asking this: - Software Defined Networking: With SDN becoming supported by so many vendors and implementations by large companies, it seems that it is surely going to become the norm a few years down the road. SDN takes all but the low level protocols off of the router and replaces it with an Openflow Agent and routes based on rules that are coded in (if I remember correctly) Python. In addition to learning the major network protocols …

Hi, just wanted to share what I've been doing and ask for some friendly/unfriendly advice :) . Some time ago I've started out with C++, learned the basics and stuff. Then I took up SDL, learned the basics and stuff too, made a few bigger/smaller projects and just recently I've moved to OpenGL and at this point I'm just thinking if its really a way to go. Ofcourse it depends on me, I enjoy making games, but I thought that I wasnt actually going deeper into C++ itself, the basics were enough ( at my level atleast ) and thought …

I would like to know how you can input information from one array to another. For example String A[] A[0]= 2, 54, 6, 7 A[1]= 434, 32, 45 A[2]= 34, 45 A[3]= 20 Where all that are in "A" are actually seen as strings, and you want to input this into an int array called City "int City[]". I want to put all information from A into City, so that City[0]= 2 City[1]= 54 City[2]= 6 City[3]= 7 City[4]= 434 City[5]= 32 and sooo on........ thing is I later on have to input city into a 2d array but I …

This is great that so many folks respond so honestly and clearly to posts from clueless people like me. So, thanks in advance for setting me straight. I'm in my 40's and looking for a career change. I've always had an interest in tech, but real-world experience is fairly slim -- got A's in Fortran & Pascal classes in colleges back in the late 80's. I'm betting things have changed a bit since then??? Here's my question. I want to choose an area of expertise that will best enable me to be successfully self-employed or fairly easily employable as a …

Hey guys, I am a complete beginner to programming. My only background is basic programming in C. I would like to learn more but I don't know where to start, I thought about learning C++ but then i read somewhere that learning obj-C or Java is a better idea. At this point I am completely confused and would like your advice. In the future I would like to create simple programs(hopefully with a GUI, I am tired of writing programs for DOS). I would also like to write for iPhone/iPod/iPad. However these are two different goals and I don't really …
