I worked this issue for over 10 hours yesterday and got nowhere. Maybe the braintrust here has some ideas. I have an Asus essentio desktop, with Win 7 Ultimate SP1 installed. Yesterday AM I discovered that it was completely hung,so I turned it off and turned it on. First, I got a black screen, so I turned off and turned on again. This time it booted, but hung on the startup screen. Off, and on, and it went to the F8 screen. Start Windows normally, and it hung on the pasword screen. Off and on, F8 screen, safe mode selected, …

I recently bought a new Dell XPS 8900 with a 1TB drive and only 8GB of RAM. It was loaded with Windows 7 but came witha Windows 10 disk and license. My intention was to put in an SSD to install Windows 7 then upgrade the original HDD to Windows 10 ( I have to learn this new OS in order to help local clients who continue to have problems). After numerous attempts at installing Windows 10 from the disk, I contacted Dell Tech Support chat and was grafeful to have their help. They gave me instructions that still did …

Here's the deal. I'm going to explain it in full so you get a good idea of what's happened. Damn Windows Update started installing a video card driver. My system is a Dell Vostro 430 and has an ATI HD 4350 (I think), but however, for some stupid reason it can only work with Dell's video driver. So when Windows Update installed the official driver for me, by the time I realised what it was doing it was too late. My screens went black; an incompatible driver screwed everything up. Worse yet, it was still installing updates, so I was …

Alright a year or so ago my girlfriends got mad at this laptop and squeezed the screen till it broke. then out of rage she punched the screen. Her parents gave me this laptop and said I could have it if I can fix it so I've been working on it. I installed a new screen inside it and it's the proper model for this particular laptop. The screen remains off now even after powering up and the dvd drive refuses to open. I've tried all the tricks from the hard reset to checking cables. Everything seems to be intact …

Hi there!! I have some hardware experience and never seen this. My problem is that I have a computer that sometimes, after i press Power On, starts the fans and after 3-4 seconds shuts everything down... The fans stop working but the front light keeps turned on. I have tried the following things: 1- inserted some cooling processor fluid. 2- changed graphic card What makes me loose my sleep is that this only happens sometimes!! Other times everything works and I can use it. Nothing is displayed on the monitor when computer doesn't boot. Any ideas?? Thanks everyone.

Hey Everyone! I'm stuck and could use a hand ^-^ I have a Toshiba Portege M200 thats giving me a head ache :P I just got the machine, it was working great but was used, and I wanted to erase everything on it and start fresh. I preformed the steps listed here http://home.allegiance.tv/~joem298/ and everything worked great! I then messed up the software while trying a few things to configure the machine to more of my liking (software wise, have not changed the hardware at all). Decided it be best to just start over again, so once again I do …

Hi, Please could you help me with this problem. I have purchased a laptop for my son from (wish i'd bought new) Ebay (my advise, don't collect an item offering shipping it voids your paypal protection, apparently). Originally we were experiencing a problem with the battery not taking the charge and dying within moments of the power supply being removed. Then within a few hours any reboots were causing the laptop to stall on boot, with a series of beeps that meant media failure. We overcame this by rebooting resitting the battery and power wire and all was fine again …

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FS8900 Laptop that suddenly won't boot up. It was working fine one day, and the next day without warning all of a sudden it just won't boot. When you hit the power button, the power light goes on, you hear the DVD drive initialize, the number lock led, the capital letter led and the other led next to it above the keyboard are all green all the time. Nothing ever shows up on the screen, not even the Bios start up screens. The Power, battery, hard drive and WAN led lights on the front of the …

My computer is an HP Pavilion Media Center Edition 2005; Windows XP. Upon starting it, I get the message: Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk And Press Enter. What can I do to get my computer to work??? F8 doesn't work. And on the F1 Setup page, there's only One of the Six Drives that have anything in them. 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th Drive say: [None] The 2nd Drive: [HL-DT-STDVDRRW]. When I go to Boot Device Priority, it tells me that the Floppy Group, HDD Group, and Network Group are: [NOT INSTALLED]. Only the CD_ROM Group Boot Priority …

Hi, I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NS10L laptop, and i haven't a clue what has happened to it. It was running windows 7 upgrade, originally on Vista. Have owned it for just over 18mnths, no problems, and just under a year on windows 7. It is very very empty in terms of content, it is a spare, just running MSN, Skype, office 2007, no music or movies etc. In the week before it died, 3 times it froze after using for around 2 hrs and made a very loud scratchy, screaming noise (sorry, only way i can describe it) and …

Hi, my Dell studio 1555 won't start up. I had it on yesterday, carried it into the other room and when i got there the computer wouldn't come out of sleep mode. I turned off the computer and now it won't boot up. When i press the power button it makes a click sound as if it is starting up and the light comes on but the laptop doesn't sound like it is running and the screen stays black. Does anyone know what the problem may be, or if there is simple solution besides taking it to be repaired? Thanks …

Have got a Sony Vaio PGC-285M laptop that will not power up or respond at all. I have performed ATX reset by disconnecting all power and battery and holding the power button for 10 secs. After this a small battery power lights just above the power button does light and flash but when you press the power button the light goes out and absolutely nothing happens. The PSU seems to be ok giving required output voltage. Has anyone managed to revive a Vaio like this? Some say its the memory, some say its the ribbon cable between the button and …

Motherboard - ASUSTek A8n-VM, rev.1.xx Bios - American Megatrends 0403 Windows XP Home, SP3 This has worked fine for several years, but now hangs at the ASUS screen on every start, instead of proceeding with the full boot. Pressing <DEL> there brings up the BIOS screen, which hangs at "auto-detecting device #01. Several hard restarts later, the BIOS will roll past #01 to #03, then automatically brings up BIOS Setup Utility. Pressing <ESC> there brings up a box asking if I wish to "Discard configuration changes and exit now?" Pressing OK there initiates the normal boot process, and normal computer …
