I am a Mac 10.6 user. One of my friends suggested me to defrag my drive in order to optimize mac performance. My friend who is at Mac 9.2 suggested me from his own experience. But when I went through Mac support , it says that there is no need to defrag Mac OSX ie; 10.6. We should go for it only when we fall short of free space for new application.

Well basically my problem is that when i use the built in defragmenter it takes a few hours to defragment, i don't know if thats normal but it seems very slow. So i was wondering if there is any other defragmenter that is definately faster. Thanks in advance. Just curious. I have used win 95 98 xp vista 7 oldtime people always said backup your data before you do defrag now windows 7 & vista have auto defrag function. I have windows vista on this pc, I had auto update and auto defrag before. NTFS file system corrupted and need to restore many times. After i disable auto update and auto defr all no problem now.. Many of my friend's windows vista PC hard drive need replace every a few years. They have auto update and auto defrag on. I wonder if there are any connection ? thanks …
