Sending books to ereader with Calibre Hardware and Software Linux and Unix by Xozz I have an ereader and I'm trying to upload books to it. Therefore I use the app Calibre. But the "send to device" options all don't allow me to do so. Any users of this app here? Thanks I must add: The device is a Kobo Glo Sony Tries New Tactics to Gain eBook Marketshare Programming Web Development by Techwriter10 …="http://blogs.forrester.com/consumer_product_strategy/2009/08/forrester-new-ereader-data-suggests-amazon-vulnerability.html"]July post[/URL] on… Who's Going to Develop an Ideal Academic eBook Reader? Community Center Geeks' Lounge by Agilemind I like the tactile feel of paper books a lot but my eye sight is so bad if I want to read without my glasses on I have to hold it really close to by face which gets tiring with thick books so I loved the ereader as soon as I got it. Here's some text from a seller of the Kobo on Amazon: > Kobo uses its own store, so it won't take amazon purchases. I'm just not sure how to make it able to upload files to the device. And I seem to remember that the Kobo Desktop app is not so decent. Re: Sending books to ereader with Calibre Hardware and Software Linux and Unix by rproffitt You mention Linux in a reply and not at the top. I must be reading the wrong web page on the Kobo. Is there a Linux app? Re: Sending books to ereader with Calibre Hardware and Software Linux and Unix by Xozz It seems not. But there is a Calibre for Linux. Re: Sending books to ereader with Calibre Hardware and Software Linux and Unix by rproffitt https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=327873 notes a few things. The keyword here is KLUNKY. Re: Sending books to ereader with Calibre Hardware and Software Linux and Unix by Xozz That's because I'm the man of klunky stuff. I'm running Windows 10 now. Kobo Desktop works in there. That doesn't mean I can upload the files now. But I'll find it all out by myself. FYI: I'm running Windows 10 in VirtualBox. Can't see the USB-ports. But I should be able to manage that. That's it for now Re: Sending books to ereader with Calibre Hardware and Software Linux and Unix by Reverend Jim I've been usiing calibre for years and have had no trouble using "send to device" with my Android phone. Re: Sending books to ereader with Calibre Hardware and Software Linux and Unix by rproffitt Ahh, Virtual Box and getting at the USB ports can be annoying. At the moment I don't have that setup so I can't write anything about that area except it was a few trips to the settings for that VM. Re: Sending books to ereader with Calibre Hardware and Software Linux and Unix by Xozz When I follow this https://www.eltima.com/article/virtualbox-usb-passthrough/ I get this https://ibb.co/gTyp71H BTW: I installed the Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack Re: Sending books to ereader with Calibre Hardware and Software Linux and Unix by rproffitt Here's an understatement at that link: > If you’re a Linux user, then your VirtualBox USB support set-up will be a bit different. After you install the extension pack, more (arcane?) commands follow. Re: Who's Going to Develop an Ideal Academic eBook Reader? Hardware and Software Hardware Mobile and Wearables by tsmyther Two things: First, readers and students have vastly different methods of accessing content. Readers chew through it from upper left to lower right, rarely back-tracking or caring where are within the structure of the book. It's all about the story. News readers are even less focused: they're all about the article. Students, however, range all … Re: Who's Going to Develop an Ideal Academic eBook Reader? Hardware and Software Hardware Mobile and Wearables by aidenkael As a senior in High School who has organization problems I would love to have one small machine that I could use for all my books. Hardware and Software Hardware Mobile and Wearables by Techwriter10 Well, I'm hoping the devices get cheap enough that replacing them isn't a huge issue and that it includes automatic backup in the cloud, so you can access your content anywhere such as a home computer. If students were willing to consume textbooks on laptops, there would be no need for the e-reader. The problem with the laptop, and presumably with the upcoming Apple tablet will be the screen. It is simply not comfortable to read for long periods of time on a backlit screen. This is why we need a … Re: Are eBook Readers Already Obsolete? Ebook readers will soon average in the $200-$250 range about 1/4 the price of what tablets are about to price at. 2.
