I'm having an issue with emulation check on IE7. For some reason it seems to be ignoring my css and it's completely scrambled. IE5, IE6, IE8, IE9 and beyond looks great. I had to fix alignment issues on divs in IE5+6, but other that they're fine. But IE7 just looks like crap. I'm using my local machine to build my own personal site, so I'm wondering if it's my localhost server? Or if it's a bug in IE's emulation for IE7. I cross browser checked just about every type of browser/resolution there was, but IE7 is just kicking my butt. …

Greetings! I took some code from this [site](http://osvaldas.info/elegant-css-and-jquery-tooltip-responsive-mobile-friendly). It works great in EVERY browser but IE7 where the arrow of the tooltip is missing. I know that there are issues with IE7 not supporting :after in CSS. I've tried adding this code: <!--[if lt IE 8]> <script src="http://ie7-js.googlecode.com/svn/version/2.1(beta4)/IE8.js"></script> <![endif]--> But it hasn't made a difference. There has to be some type of hack I can add in. I need this tooltip to work in both mobile and IE7 (strange company I work for, ha!). This is my css: <style type="text/css"> #tooltip { text-align: center; color: #fff; background: #111; position: absolute; …

Hi, I am using Contao, which I am unfamiliar with, to make a website for my boss, and now it is published I can get it to work on every browser except IE 6 and 7. The images are coming out all misshapen... Open www.carolineredmanlusher.com in IE6/7 to see what I mean! I think it's due to IE 7 not parsing the float property and margins/padding as well as the newer browsers do, I've been told I should be able to get round it with one extra style sheet and then add an 'if' statement to the header on each …

Hi all, I'm working on a website which has a horizontal navigation menu, much like the one on DaniWeb. Basically I need to include an icon which floats right for each list item. IE7 has a bug whereby if the container div does not have a width stipulated then a right floated element inside of the div will cause it to expand to 100% width. I've tried numerous workarounds that i've seen in blogs and other forums but to no avail. I've spent around 15 hours on this bug. I'm not a designer but due to lack of designer resource …

Hi Whilst I have checked both the HTML and CSS for errors and have found none I have an issue with rendering using IE8 and IE7. IE9 is fine as are the other browsers. When I click on the navbar, the display loses all styling and displays for a second or less a default white background and text stretching across the full width of the display. Since my website background is a very dark shade of grey, almost black, the effect is most unpleaant. Has anyone any idea why this is happening? Geoff

I've worked on a site redesign for my boss, and, as the title says, it looks good in pretty much everything *except* IE7 (and I'm assuming earlier versions, as well). Some of my images go missing, and elements shift to strange spots on the page. I'll be the first to admit, my code is probably a little sloppy. I'm nowhere close to being an expert, and it's been several years since I last cobbled together anything. I was also attempting to do this page from scratch, in one day, with a 5:00pm deadline, while keeping my energetic 3-year-old entertained. : …

Have a look at this HTML code. In IE7 it displays two rows of a table-like form, much the same as in Firefox 3.x, 4 and Chrome. Now uncomment the [ICODE]"<!--div>abc</div-->"[/ICODE] and look again. Now the row spacing has become much larger, about 1em. I don't have a clue where this comes from and how I could possibly avoid it. I need the <div> above the table to display some text. The effect stays the same if you replace the <div> by a <p>.
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"><head> <title></title> <meta http-equiv="Content-type" content="text/html; …
and all the pages who use the masterform are supposed to be displayed in IE7-mode, but for some reason the internet browser ignores the IE7 emulation and displays it as IE8 as default. This same problem also affects the add to basket or add to wish-list functionality, the checkout process, and all other Ajax requests. Here is a breakdown of what happens... 1. User clicks on the "log-in" link. 2. Log-in page opens (new page). 3. User logs in (Ajax submission of credentials, page supposed to reload, but does not in IE7) 4. Log-in block is supposed to show user details now, but does not, because page did not …

I just started the process of learning CSS web design so I’m fairly certain my code is a little messy but I was hoping someone might be able to help me out. I am working on a website with a large background image. It works just fine in google chrome, firefox and IE8, but IE7 the background image shows up when you first open the page but disappears if you click away from the homepage and return. Is this a bug in ie7? Does anyone know of a quick fix? I would hate to have to redesign the whole site. …

I can reproduce this bug in IE7 (and a colleague in IE6), my link is here: http://www.pritaeas.net/tools/linkfarm/ If you select a tag the list gets filtered and the tag added to the selected div. Unselecting it will reset the taglist, and remove() the tag from the selected div. Selecting another one will result in positioning the new tag next to the element that has been removed. Is this a jQuery issue, or can this be fixed by changing my css. After a suggestion on StackOverflow I've also tried to use .hide() and .hide("fast") but to no avail. T.i.a. Originally posted …

Hello, I have a web layout inside a table that allows it to be both vertically and horizontally aligned. It was working well in all browers, until I needed to make a div with a relative positioning. Now that div does not align vertically in IE6 and IE7. It works in other browers. The reason I needed to make it relative it's because it has to contain a smaller div that should go to the bottom, which has positioning absolute and bottom:0. The DIV that is not vertically aligning has the id="menu" in the example. Any help really appreciated! Here …

It would seem that Firefox may be faster, but at a cost. Why else is the browser …

Hi I have a Frontpage 2002 web. I am finding that the program won't generate the HTML code on editing one of my pages and adding to it. In fact (it has happened before on another page) on an edit the previous HTML code is removed leaving a blank page. In short. edit a Frontpage 2002 page and I am losing my HTML. I thought this was due to adding a DOCTYPE statement -which apparently 2002 does not need. and also adding a meta statement to get the website to run in IE7 mode. I should have left well alone! …

Well, it looks like the latest installment of Microsoft's browser, IE8, is now available for download in beta status. While I'm not daring enough to give it a go myself, word on the street is that, while Microsoft boasts it passes the ACID2 test, it renders most sites rather awkwardly, to the point of being unusable for regular web browsing. (It leaves a sour taste when you consider that their main push is adhering to standards and compliancy.) To add insult to injury, while MS is off boasting that IE8 is CSS2 compliant, they seem to ignore the fact that …
