A lot of SMTP servers switched over the past year or so to using XOAuth2 for authentication. A username + password in your config settings will no longer suffice to establish a connection. Removed some things that were not being used. I ran into a couple problems which caused the freeze you mentioned. It was memory heap space and array allocating.
