For those very new to this area, please google SIM SWAP and discover a very nasty security issue with all phones we use today. At first glance the new security researcher might think I'm exaggerating. Do your own research and tell me you don't find this to be one of the most foul, nasty exploits I've seen in years. This exploit was recently used to highjack a writer's phone at https://www.zdnet.com/article/sim-swap-horror-story-ive-lost-decades-of-data-and-google-wont-lift-a-finger/ His case is still developing with loss of accounts, tax returns he stored on the Clouds, and a 25,000USD Bitcoin purchase. And we're not talking thousands of dollars in …

The Conservative party issued a statement on Saturday which apologised for "any concern caused" and confirmed that "the technical issue has been resolved and the app is now functioning securely." However, not before Boris Johnson's profile image had been changed to a pornographic one and that of Environment Secretary, Michael Gove, swapped for a picture of Rupert Murdoch. Some ministers, and other MPs, apparently reported receiving nuisance calls following the app breach. The Information Commissioner's Office has confirmed that it is investigating the incident, and bite the Tories with a large fine. Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), …

I would like to inform the people here on this site (Daniwebs) community know that my account here with Daniweb was not only accessed and found to have been accessed on the Darkweb, it was hacked. I have yet figured out exactly what they were using my account for, or to do while on my account yet and from where, what IP address or hopefully who. When I do figure this out, I will update as I make progress. A note to those that are quickly thinking "I must have used an unsecure password like password, 1234, admin, etc." well …

Hey lately i have currently been looking for a new cpu cooler considering that i still have the default stock cooler that came with the cpu and/or case... Which isn't really doing its job too well not cooling and extremely loud (doesn't help that the computer is in the hottest room thats like a oven through out the day). I would like to aim for something between $30-60$ excluding postage costs (preferably something cheaper thats half decent).

The title of the new employee training module alone was a sign that times have changed. This topic never came up in all my years at any job. Here's the boil down of the course. > If there is an active shooter in the area, we suggest you first run (away), hide and if forced fight I shared this with a friend in HR in Canada and they were mildly shocked. This wasn't my training session but my son at his new job.

I would highly appreciate any kind of comment or advice when it comes to improving the development or advertising of this product. My name is Milica and product is called Publitio. CryptoWall 4.0 the newest ransomware to date is been spread by Angler Exploit Kits. A new drive-by download campaign is to blame for this attack. Heimdal was the first to discover the malware nearly one month ago. It's also more stealthier than previous versions and also a lot stronger. This time the message is different and more filenames had been added to the list. Also users have to fork out $700 for the decryption key which makes it a hefty price to pay. Firstly the Pony Information Stealer scrapes the computer of usernames and passwords by scouring the victims computer. …

It seems the article [Update on PHP.net site malware hack attack](http://www.daniweb.com/web-development/php/news/466087/update-on-php.net-site-malware-hack-attack) has been at the top of the PHP forum for 3 months. OK, there have been a few comments, but it's getting a bit old. Is there any reason why this is a sticky? BTW - good article by HG - I'm not knocking that at all - just the permanence of its poll position.

Fast food chain KFC has had more than its fair share of Kentucky Fried WHAT? myths busted over the years. However, some of the stories turn out to be genuine such as the [breaded and deep fried kidney](http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/07/ibrahim-langoo-brain-kidney-kfc_n_2425917.html) that was discovered by Ibrahim Langoo in a KFC in Colchester, England recently. I was therefore intrigued to learn that a worm had been found inside a KFC product. When I spotted that the press release detailing this came from the PR people at Internet security specialists McAfee I kind of started to realise that this was no food story, but rather …

According to a press release that arrived today, entitled "Kaspersky Lab identifies first targeted attack utilising malware for Android devices", it marks the "first serious wave of targeted attacks using Android malware" but just how worrying is that really? ![ad9c332c555679ef709b67f0c7093e73](/attachments/large/0/ad9c332c555679ef709b67f0c7093e73.jpg "ad9c332c555679ef709b67f0c7093e73") The PR company sending the release were at pains to point out that "this latest discovery is perhaps the first serious wave of targeted attacks using Android malware in-the-wild against Tibetan and Uyghur activists" and that "the malware secretly reports the infection to a command-and-control server. After that, it begins to harvest information stored on the device". The stolen …

FireEye security researchers are warning that they have [detected a new zero-day vulnerability](http://blog.fireeye.com/research/2013/02/yaj0-yet-another-java-zero-day-2.html) that is being used successfully in the wild against browser clients with both Java 6u41 and Java 7u15 installed. Given that the Java 7 update was only released a couple of weeks ago, this is yet more bad news for Oracle and for users of the Java browser plug-in. bad news, but not exactly surprising as security researchers have been finding flaws in the update since it was made available. The difference here is that this isn't just a lab-based, theoretical, vulnerability: this is, it would appear, …

According to IT security outfit Kaspersky, which has just [published details](http://www.securelist.com/en/analysis/204792255/Kaspersky_Security_Bulletin_2012_The_overall_statistics_for_2012) of the information security landscape as it was shaped during 2012, 99% of all mobile malware threats now target Android devices. With 6300 new mobile malware samples discovered every month on average across 2012, Android has become the focus for the criminal fraternity for a second year in a row. The remaining 1% of threats, in case you wondered, were mainly targeting Java and Symbian-based smartphones. Across 2012 as a whole, Kaspersky reports, the number of known malicious samples on the Android platform increased "explosively" compared to the previous …

According to new research from Kaspersky Lab, in the form of a report called [Evaluating the threat level of software vulnerabilities](http://media.kaspersky.com/documents/business/misc/Kaspersky_Lab_Report_Software_Vulnerabilities_final.pdf), 72% of Java users haven't switched to the latest, safest, version despite highly publicised vulnerabilities and resulting security exploits. ![dweb-java011](/attachments/small/0/dweb-java011.jpg "align-right") And it's not just Java, the report also shows that users of older versions of Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Reader are also failing to upgrade to safer versions, leaving their systems and their data at potential risk of breach. Researchers looked at the most dangerous vulnerabilities (those known to be actively exploited by cybercriminals) found in assorted …

An in-the-wild exploit targeting a vulnerability with Java 7 has led to security experts the world over warning users to disable the Java plug-in for their browser clients at the very least, and preferably uninstall Java altogether. The CVE-2012-4681 vulnerability, comprising two flaws, along with a couple of other 'related vulnerabilities' has now been patched by Oracle which strongly recommends users apply the updates as soon as possible. Security Explorations, the Polish security company that first notified Oracle about the vulnerabilities many weeks ago, is less convinced. ![javasec7](/attachments/small/0/javasec7.jpg "align-right") It would appear that the company has found another vulnerability in …

According to the boffins at Kaspersky Lab, users of Android devices running Gingerbread (Android 2.3.6) and Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0.4) are targeted the most by cybercriminals. Gingerbread accounted for 28% of all the attempts to install malware that were successfully blocked by Kaspersky, while Ice Cream Sandwich accounted for 22%. ![dweb-gingerbread](/attachments/small/0/dweb-gingerbread.jpg "align-right") Over half of the malware detected on Android devices by Kaspersky were, unsurprisingly, SMS Trojans designed to relieve the victim of money by sending SMS text messages to premium rate numbers without the users consent or knowledge. The most popular method of doing this, it would seem, …

Removed magic_quotes_gpc, magic_quotes_runtime and magic_quotes_sybase ini options. get_magic_quotes_gpc, get_magic_quotes_runtime are kept but always return false, set_magic_quotes_runtime raises an E_CORE_ERROR.
