Hello DaniWeb Family, A few years after obtaining my Master's in Business, I decided to completely change careers and go back to school for web design and development. I've recently completed a 2-year program where I studied VB, ASP.NET, C#, Java, SQL, Server 2008, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver among other courses. I love designing and building the front-end of the website as well as writing programs and applications and building databases for the back-end. What I'd like to do now is build a database-driven dynamic website similar to Expedia.com but for a different industry. Is this do-able at my newbie level …

According to new research from Randstad Technologies, a specialist recruitment company, less than half of those working in the IT and technology industry in the United Kingdom are happy with their levels of pay. By contrast, however, 60% appear to be quite happy with their jobs despite of this. Interestingly, that 60% figure is lower than the national average of 61% across the entire UK workforce whereas the number happy with their pay (47%) is higher than the national average (43%). If you want to be really happy, if you believe the statistics, then perhaps you should quit tech and …

I do not know how to write a function for this. I have written just the base line of the code, but I do not know how to finish it. Here is the description. A void Function tagReader inputs the data collected by the cylinders; it has two parameters: the input file and an int count. The function inputs names, serial numbers, and location coordinates from the input file. The input file will have a descriptive name, an integer serial number and two double values representing map coordinates separated by blanks on each line. For each cylinder, echo print to …

There is an old saying that goes something like this: If you put 1,000 monkeys in a room with 1,000 typewriters (the things people used before computers), they would come up with the works of Shakespeare. Could the same be true of a great Desktop OS? No, but give me 1,000 well-paid developers and I'll give you a great Desktop OS. My first two posts were responses to news articles concerning the fate of Desktop Linux. I think that Linux is ready for the Desktop in spite of the opinions of Novell and RedHat. Unfortunately, corporations want guarantees, support, and …

So many of us C forum old timers have answered the same basic questions so many times that even our occasional attempts to be humorous or creative with them seem to get dull. You'd think that by the end of week one that a programmer new to C would have been taught how to read a string and a number from user input. Instead I see piles of questions on linked list or binary search tree implementations, and the programmer is still hampered by faulty input handling, the use of nonstandard functions, and all too often not even knowing how …
