Hi I have a Dell 690 workstation fitted with two quad core E5320 processors. I have had trouble with this PC possibly due it being damaged in delivery - it weighs 30 or so Kg. Perhaps I should have returned it :( Too late now. After using it and updating etc I gave it to my daughter and did a Windows Easy Transfer (WET) to replace her aging Dell. Apparently, the Outlook Profile was corrupted and then there was an unidentified hardware issue that prevented the 690 PC from booting. I replaced the PC with another 690 that has been …

I am going to get my new laptop soon but the cpu is AMD Phenom II X3 N830. It is a socket S1, but I was looking at some quad core Phenoms on ebay but either a) they were slow speeds b) the ram would be only 1066MHZ supported. I do not care about price right now. Is there any intel cpu's using this sockets? I would like the cpu's to be at least 2.3GHz quad core, support 1333MHz ram (8GB ddr3 would be used), have 3dNOW (not sure if its to important - but sounder faster...), hyperthreading if possible …

Code Snippet Quadratic Solver

I have written this for my math class, as it saved me an accumulated time of three hours over a week of homework that involved the quads. I a posting it here for anyone who wants to use, modify or otherwise use to go ahead and do so. Standard Quadratic Form applies here, Ax2 * Bx * C, and sometimes Ax2 * Bx = C, etc. Thanks, And enjoy, -Stev Täal

Intel's finally received the kick-in-the-pants from its rival AMD, and, trying to kick that reputation of having hot chips has decided to revamp its server quad-core Xeon chips. The new chips, which have started shipping, use a mere 50 watts of power. It also has a 60 percent reduction from the previous generation of Xeon chips. So how does this stack up with AMD? Well, Intel is ahead, which is probably why they released this now. Anyhow, AMD has only 68 watts, so AMD's got an 18 wattage reduction challenge set for them now... So how low can these chip-makers …

While Intel had announced awhile back that they would be making a Core 2 Duo chip AMD said they were already working on a Quad-core. Then more recently Intel announced that they would be making a Quad-core chipset as well this year so whats the difference. Well they both are planning to release the same kind of chip but mid 2007 AMD will launch a faster chip with a different design. Both chips proposed to come out later this year will feature 2 dual core chips packaged together. Then the AMD coming out later will feature 4 unique chips on …

After announcing the release of the new core 2 duo conroe for desktops and merriem for laptops intel has said that they are going to release a quad-core processor by the end of this year. So if you were waiting around to buy a core 2 duo or an amd 64 X-2 than you will be waisting your money. This is becuase by the time youve had your new processor for a couple of months it will be completley obsolete. So far the reviews about the core 2 duo have shown nothing but the best. I have heard that there …

Fedora Core 5, the next version of software based on RedHat Linux of long ago, was released in Mid-March to the masses. I am sure that others have looked at the alpha and beta releases -- I waited until the the official release before looking at the software. Initial reactions: I love it. My hardware, for those to compare, is an AMD Athalon 1.2 GHz computer with 756 MB of RAM or so, ample hard drive space, and an ATI Rage Pro 128 video card. Actually, it is an ATI All-in-wonder TV card, with Rage 128 video horsepower, but the …

The appearance, in some online store catalogues, of the dual-core Athlon X2 3800+ processor marks a welcome new entry to the processor battles. Although not yet officially announced, the X2 3800+ is expected to have a clockspeed of 2.0Ghz and to have 2x512Kb level 2 cache. Expect it to retail for around $US350, which is about 60% of the cost of the previous low end Athlon64 X2. With performance which exceeeds that of comparable Pentium dual-core processors, the Athlon64 X2 series has also been priced more highly. Expect to see some serious competition ahead for the entry level Pentium D …
