I have spent days reading different threads and trying lots of stuff, but nothing has helped my problem. My setup is a home network with one desktop PC wired to an ActionTec router-modem on ATT DSL and 2 PC laptops on wireless. Everything works on the two laptops, but I cannot get internet on the desktop. However, I can successfully ping everything from the desktop including the router/gateway, the other computers, other IP addresses and web addresses. I thought it might be the desktop-to-router cable or the wired side of the router, but I connected a laptop to the router …

Hi, Could anyone please help me to understand what's involved when moving a hard drive (Windows and documents in three partitions) to a new PC? I have an XP SP3 setup that I've tweaked to perfection (for me at least) and would like to maintain those files and settings when I get a new PC. Both machines have ASUS motherboards, the old with Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, the new with Intel i5. I have done some research into sysprep but it seems able to be used in a number of ways. I have a machine with XP Pro SP3, on an Asus P5L...something board and an Intel E5200 dual core CPU. The BIOS shows both cores, and windows shows both cores in device manager, but not in Task Manager. See screenshot: http://edgebox.ca/singlecore.PNG From what I've googled, it seems to be a problem with the HAL ACPI thing, needs to be a multiprocessor one, but I don't know how to switch it?

With the lackluster adoption of Vista, perhaps Microsoft plans to migrate XP users by attrition—one service pack at a time. The company today released Windows XP SP3, which enables in XP a slew of features, many native to Vista. Available now as a stand-alone installer pack, the update brings XP users to Peer Name Resolution Protocol 2.1, the version of Microsoft’s peer-to-peer technology used by Vista to learn of and communicate with other Vista apps and Web-connected systems by name. It also will allow XP apps to do the same with those on Vista. PNRP 2.0 was introduced in Vista …
