Re: Things I hate about TV shows Community Center Geeks' Lounge by KomalBhatt You know, there are few things more frustrating than getting interested in a TV show only to find it falling short of expectations. From the overly predictable plotlines to the underdeveloped characters, there's a huge list. But what really get irritated by is when the dialogue feels forced, like the writers are trying too hard to be clever or … Re: ASUS Laptops - my experience Hardware and Software by Reverend Jim Got my laptop back from Best Buy this afternoon. I checked the power cord connection at the store and it was fine. I wish I'd checked it further because I started having problems as soon as I got it home and powered up. First of all, they replaced the motherboard so when I got it back it had been wiped and reset. First thing I noticed was that the … Re: ASUS Laptops - my experience Hardware and Software by rproffitt "I allocated a C partition and formatted as NTFS then boot back into my Windows 11 install USB." That can derail the usual Windows install. On today's PCs I start off with a blank, no partition drive, boot the Windows USB stick and once in a while need to add the Intel RST storage driver. I maintain that Microsoft should update … Re: ASUS Laptops - my experience Hardware and Software by toneewa If the power connector was replaced with the motherboard, then your charging cord is suspect. If they setup your PC with Windows 11, there's a good chance a GPT partition was used instead of NTFS (outdated). Imaging back to this would fail. Always check in your BIOS to see if your drives shows up there. If you're setup in UEFI mode, instead of … Re: ASUS Laptops - my experience Hardware and Software by Reverend Jim Likewise... Whenever I reinstall Windows, other than the times I've reset to factory, when it gets to the "where do you want to install to" I always get the installer to delete, then recreate the partition. Re: What are you watching on TV? Community Center Geeks' Lounge by Dani pritaeas, what did you think of 3%? I saw it a couple of years ago. Sticking with the Sci-fi genre, although a bit more lighthearted, my husband and I are currently watching Resident Alien. Re: Do you participate in any other communities? Community Center Geeks' Lounge by Dani I was talking to Chris (the DiC founder/owner) a little bit before he decided to shut it down. He was saying he's been so busy with his other businesses that he spent maybe 5 minutes on it over the past 5 years, so he lost interest, and it wasn't paying its server costs. At least in the case of DaniWeb, it *also* isn't even coming close to … Re: What are you watching on TV? Community Center Geeks' Lounge by pritaeas I liked the concept, but some choices in the movie I remember I thought were strange. However, this is a while back, so please don't ask specifics. Resident Alien started funny, but didn't grab my attention. Latest I quite liked was "Vis-a-vis" (Spanish). Re: What are you watching on TV? Community Center Geeks' Lounge by Reverend Jim We watched Resident Alien. Liked season 1 but it kind of petered out after that. I have not heard of 3%. What is it about and who is in it? I can't find it on IMDB. We just finished Apples Never Fall, and 3 Body Problem is in the queue. Re: What are you watching on TV? Community Center Geeks' Lounge by pritaeas Doesn't the link I posted open? https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4922804/ This is the tagline on IMDB: "A post-apocalyptic thriller set in near-future Brazil, where a select few are allowed to join a privileged society after undergoing an intense and competitive process." It is a Brasilian production, so I doubt I can mention anyone you… Re: What are you watching on TV? Community Center Geeks' Lounge by Reverend Jim >Doesn't the link I posted open? My mistake. I just scrolled back to the last couple of posts, not far enough to see the link. Dani - if you like Resident Alien I suggest you watch the movie, [Tucker and Dale vs Evil](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1465522/). Re: Things I hate about TV shows Community Center Geeks' Lounge by Dani Currently the thing I hate most about TV shows is how much time elapses between seasons. I feel like I've been waiting for season 2 of Severance on AppleTV for *forever*! (It's been over 2 years already since season 1 debuted.) Speaking of that, is there ever going to be a second season for Squid Game? I can't imagine that Netflix wouldn’t invest … Re: Things I hate about TV shows Community Center Geeks' Lounge by Reverend Jim Fer sher. You pretty much have to watch the previous season again before you start the next one. I'm still waiting for season 2 of The Old Man (Jeff Bridges, John Lithgow). At my age sometimes I lose the thread if two weeks goes by between episodes. Sometimes I'll wait until the end of a season before I watch any of it. I especially hate it when a … Re: Things I hate about TV shows Community Center Geeks' Lounge by pritaeas > is there ever going to be a second season for Squid Game Yes, already announced, available soon. Re: Things I hate about TV shows Community Center Geeks' Lounge by Dani That's my point, though. Gone are the days when a show would break for a summer and the next season would start up again in the fall. Re: Things I hate about TV shows Community Center Geeks' Lounge by Reverend Jim >Gone are the days That's pretty much the case for everything. I remember when TV sucked all through summer vacation and I couldn't wait for the end of September for the new seasons to start. Of course it was bittersweet because September also meant back to school. I'll mention a few more things that may have been mentioned before but I … Re: ASUS Laptops - my experience Hardware and Software by Reverend Jim When I got it back they had replaced both the motherboard and the power supply and I checked in the store to verify there were no power issues. I suspect you are correct about them not reconnecting the touchpad as that was not working in Linux either. As for GPT vs NTFS, I have never formatted to anything but NTFS, and when I originally got the … Re: ASUS Laptops - my experience Hardware and Software by rproffitt https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1044458/ notes the Intel RST as well. As to BB/GS, I've found them hit or miss on this area. And on some models you "Disable Intel Volume Management Device (VMD) technology". I'm of the opinion that such steps should be automatic and built into "modern" Windows. ASUS Laptops - my experience Hardware and Software by Reverend Jim In the summer of 2022 I bought an ASUS laptop from BestBuy. It came with an internal SSD and an empty internal bay for a 2.5" drive. I didn't install a second drive until October and when I booted up it would not recognize the added drive. When I took it back to BestBuy the tech said that the problem was that the port that the drive connected … ABC for Github-programs and Python Programming Software Development by Audun Hi I want to make use of GitHub-programs, and so I downloaded a bunch of Python-tools. When I run this command in "Python 3.12", which looks like CMD to me, I get a syntax error. "To create a virtual environment, Python supplies a built in venv module which provides the basic functionality needed for the virtual … Re: ABC for Github-programs and Python Programming Software Development by Reverend Jim I have developed a number of GUI applications in python. I found that the wxpython package was far better than tkinter. wxpython is based on wxwidgets which is essentially windows controls. Because wxwidgets are compiled for each major system, controls rendered by wxpython look like the native controls for whatever system is hosting. Re: Hi everyone, I'm HYSTOU Community Center Say Hello! by Dani Hi and welcome to DaniWeb!! Thanks for joining and telling us a little bit about yourself. Re: How to Code a Load More Button? Digital Media Digital Marketing Search Engine Strategies by Dani Hello there! Firstly, so sorry for taking so long to respond to this thread. I was actually away at an SEO conference (I'm going to write a post about it in the next handful of days, and, yes, I'm mildly feeling a bit better). That being said, what you're asking for is definitely doable, because we are doing the exact thing here at DaniWeb. … Re: Postfix authentication problem Hardware and Software Linux and Unix by chickenbirds > I am trying to set-up Postfix on my Ubuntu local web development machine for send-only e-mails using Gmail so I can test e-mails sent by a web app I am developing. Programming Web Development by Reverend Jim I tried installing python 3.12 and had the same problem. I typically wait a bit before installing the latest and greatest because I have found it can take a while before packages are upgraded to be compatible (usually wxpython). I was able to install the individual packages under python 3.10. I know that the "next to latest and greatest" … Re: Online subission forms not sending emails of submitted info Programming Web Development by Biiim In your code where you write `mail($to,$subject,$message,$headers);` if you want to get error messages or "do something if it fails" you need to alter it a bit to something like: if(mail($to,$subject,$message,$headers)){ //if successful do something }else{ //if error do something else } //or… Re: ASUS Laptops - my experience Hardware and Software by toneewa Some information left out is the actual name/ model of laptop, hard drive, and whether or not it was visible in the BIOS. Inspecting the controller's connection to the motherboard and port,… Re: ASUS Laptops - my experience Hardware and Software by rproffitt I've had a lot of their laptops at my brother's insurance office. We've been lucky with them. OK, there is a "thing" about some models where you have to install a media/storage driver for some drives to show up. So far Linux shows such drives since that driver is baked into all the current distros I've used recently. I can't offer … Re: ASUS Laptops - my experience Hardware and Software by Reverend Jim The previous unit was a Vivobook 15 X513EA-BH59-CB. The current one is a Vivoboox ASUS K350 2ZA BB51 CB. I'm assuming that the problem with the first unit was not a missing driver because both ASUS and Best Buy (Geek Squad) could not get it working. Re: ASUS Laptops - my experience Hardware and Software by Reverend Jim Took my laptop in to Best Buy ths morning and they said it would have to be shipped back to ASUS for repair (again). The good news is that it's still under warranty and I have a spare laptop. The bad news it that it's also an ASUS, but at least it's an older one from before they started making crap.
