Ok, it looks like my thread merged worked, but unfortunately the log you posted indicates that you used/ran a rather outdated version (1.98.2) of HijackThis.

I'm sorry to have to put you through this again, but you need to get the most current version (1.99.1) of HijackThis and post the log that version generates.

Ill get the right one.

OK- I know it's probably a hassle, but please do that. The newer version scans more areas of your system, so it will give us a better idea of where all of the "nasties" are hiding.

Here is the log from the newest version of hjt. I still cant get Internet Explorer to download a thing.

1. C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\Temporary Directory 3 for hijackthis.zip\HijackThis.exe

The log entry above indicates that you are running HJT from within a Temp/Temporary folder. Please do the following:

Create a folder outside of any Temp/Temporary folders for HJT and move it there now. A folder such such as C:\HijackThis or C:\Spyware Tools\HijackThis will do.

One of the normal steps in eliminating malicious programs is to entirely delete the contents of all Temp folders. Given that, if HijackThis (and other data that you care about) is living in those Temp folders, it will be erased along with everything else. Temp/Temporary folders are just that- Temporary. They are not meant for permanent storage, as their contents are often delete in the course of troubleshooting, by running disk clean-up utilities, etc.

2. Remove the MyWay/MyBar and WeatherBug programs via your Add/Remove Programs control panel; both programs are parasites.

3. Once you've moved HJT into a folder such as I specified above, run it again and have it fix:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = 127.0.0.1:8080

4. Reboot into safe mode (you get to the safe mode boot option by hitting the F8 key as your computer is starting up)

- Open Windows Explorer, and in the Folder Options->View settings under the Tools menu, select "show hidden files and folders", and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extentions for known file types".

- Delete the following file:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\umbs.exe

- Delete the following folders entirely:
C:\Program Files\MyWay
C:\Program Files\AWS

- For every user account listed under C:\Documents and Settings, delete the entire contents of these folders (but not the folders themselves):

Important: One of the normal steps in eliminating malicious programs is to entirely delete the contents of all Temp folders. Given that, if any data that you care about is living in those Temp folders, you need to move it to a safe location now, or it will be erased along with everything else!

1. Local Settings\Temp
2. Cookies
3. History
4. Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

- Delete the entire content of your C:\Windows\Temp folder.

Note- If you get any messages concerning the deletion of system files such as desktop.ini or index.dat, just choose to delete those files; they'll be automatically regenerated by Windows if needed. Windows will allow you to delete the versions of those files which exist in sub-folders within the main Temp/Temorary folders, but might not let you delete the versions of those files that exist in the main Temp folders themselves; this is normal and OK.

- Empty your Recycle Bin.

4. Reboot normally, run HJT again, and post a fresh log.

please tell me step by step how to create a permanate file to store hjt from a temp file in

please tell me step by step how to create a permanate file to store hjt from a temp file in

Right-click in an open area on your desktop and select New, and then Folder; give the new folder a name (something like HJT or HijackThis would be good), and then drag the hijackthis.exe icon that is on your desktop into this new folder. You can then open the folder and double-click on hijackthis.exe to run it.

I deleted all the selections that were requested. I ran another scan and the log file is under this message. Please take a look at it and tell me if everything looks right. Thanks.

I tried to dowload a program a few minutes ago and It still wont download. Man this is unreal. Mabe I missed something while deleting but I am very careful doimg computer stuff. please help. Thanks

You are still running hijackthis from a Temp folder. You must move it to a permanent one just in case something is accidentally removed :).

I wonder if this line has something to do with your problem?

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SIE2004] "C:\Program Files\Winferno\SIEPIE\SIEPulse.exe"

It may be too secure and not letting you download.

Crunchie, Man I think the problems started happening when I started using SecureIe. I received a message one day while browsing," from Mcaffe" that my computer wasnt secure while on the net and SecureIe would be the answer.I tried it and at first it worked well but I was unable to download the updates cause it gave a message that it couldnt find the temporary files to store the updates. I went back and forth with Wenfero.and they finally refunded my money. But then my machine started slowing down really slow. Then it would freeze up and i would have to just press the button to turn it off. then i tried to delete the winfero securie from my computer but it would keep popping up. I still have traces of it in different programs. I still get a message that pops up a good bit that says sescureIe hasnt been updated in fourteen days. I tried to go back a restore my computer to a point before I installed the SecureIe but it wont let me go back that far. What should I do?

I finally figured out how to make hjt a permanate file. I saved a log file which i am posting below minus the wifero secure and private IE files. I took the liberties to go ahead and delete those. Yall please take a look at this log and tell me how to correct my problems, thanks

The version of Internet Explorer your currently using might be out of date, since there's no indication of a version in the header. Be sure to check for, and upgrade to, the newest version as soon as possible, if necessary.

StopZilla makes the open to debate kist .I personally would remove it and everything releated to it from my computer .

SecureIE may be causing part of your problems (including why hijackthis can't determine your IE version). Read the last couple of paragraphs in this review:
http://netsecurity.about.com/cs/productreviews/fr/aafpr080303_2.htm

Check the following settings in IE:

Click on Tools, and then Internet Options; click on the Security tab, and then on the Custom Level button. Scroll down the list to Downloads (past the part involving ActiveX); under Downloads you should see two options -- File download and Font download, make sure both are Enabled, and then click OK, and OK again.

After you do that, try downloading IEFix from here:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4467.html

Keep us posted...

PS: I'm trying to find out how to completely remove SecureIE... anyone here have any suggestions?

I have enabled font and file download in the security section of tools. I have searched my computer for every little bit of Secure IE i could find and deleted it. I did everything requested and still have the same,"unable to download'" message. I created another log, posted below. Man I know we are going to get this fixed I just hope you guys will continue to help. Thanks a bunch

a few things in you log ,still that are releated to Securi IE,do you have the mcafee filre wall by chance.Mcafee firewall info

I dont have the mccafee firewall. I do have the virus scan. the widows firewall is the only firewall I have. I have Spyblaster, Spybot search and destroy, Lavasoft Adawared, Pc booster, security booter and thats about all i can think of. I have tried to delete eveythin I can identify relating to Secure IE. If you see anything else mabe I cn delete those and get some good results, I wonder if the people who created SecureIE plotted this breakdown. Not long after I purchased the SIE I started getting advertisement for PC boosters that would speed up my machine. Thats about the time SIE started slowing my machine down to a near freeze. What a sales gimmic. Thats like having a tire store on a main hiway and standing out front throwing nails on the rode in front of cars. Only with computers its more devious because computer illiterate people like myself dont have a clue. If anyone has any more suggestions other than, " PUT A TORCH TO IT " let me know your thoughts. Thanks

Although I don't think Winferno is one of them, there are actually anti-spyware vendors out there that 'throw nails in the road' in order to get business. SpyHunter used to fall into this category and I would suggest removing it. You can read a bit about it here: http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#sh_note

(Always check this site before getting any anti-spyware products: http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm)

Winferno does make it surprisingly difficult to remove their product.

Do you have Crypkey software by Kenonic Controls installed on your computer?

Do you have any 'free trial' software installed?

Do you use a handheld PC that you sync with this one?

Go to Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel and remove the following (if found):

Winferno (also look for SecureIE, SIEPIE, or SIEPulse)

Scan with HJT, and have it fix the following entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://www.zillafind.com/getPageRes...g=true&query=%s
O2 - BHO: ZILLAbar BHO - {2F19BBE7-D050-4C39-829E-C2F9E15C90F0} - C:\Program Files\ISSS\ZILLAbar\ZILLAbar.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SIE2004] "C:\Program Files\Winferno\SIEPIE\SIEPulse.exe"

Be sure all windows, other then hijackthis, are closed before hitting the fix button

Go to C:\Program Files and delete the Winferno folder

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data and find umbs.exe, right-click on it, choose Properties, and give us whatever info you can find on it (Company, version, etc.). I think it's okay, just want to make sure.

Reboot, close all browser windows, scan with HJT, and post a new log please.

I dont think I have crypkey or keynonic controls.I do have a Toshiba pocket PC in a cradle connected running from Outlook. I dont remember doing any free trials. Here is the log after getting rid of the last files requested. Thanks

Can you download anything now? Try the following. Not sure if it will help or not. Will not hurt though :).

1) find the ie.inf file located in Windows\Inf folder.
2) Right click the ie.inf file and click Install on the context menu.
3) Reboot the computer when the file copy process is complete.

I dont know how I ended up here on the second page without any other pages showing. I hope you guys get this post.

You accidently posted this in your original thread in the Browser forum, so I copied it over to here.

I included some things listed in my adaware log I found that you had ask me if i had. Please take a look at the most recent logs and let me know. Thanks

Comments : Operates in all directories, not just configured ones. Directory configuration only used for fille clean up and uninstall. 0/3 fixed problem with other partitions. 0/6 fixed problem with short paths

Southern got the same problem, solved it only by cleaning out your page files and increasing the size of your temporary internet files folder.

Please note I think this is only a temporary fix, so if I were you I'd download Firefox don't import anything from IE when you install it and use that for the mo.

I reckon this is a hijack and I going Hunting he he, will keep you posted.

Please keep in mind that I am like a patient with a scalple about to perform sugery on another patient when it comes to working on this computer. If you think that cleaning out my page files and increasing the size of my temporary internet files will work please explain the procedure. Im pretty sure about increasing the size of the temp internet files but cleaning out my page files might cause me to get rid of the wrong thing if Im ignorant to the facts. I gathered from the past dealings with this problem, that the idea of fixing the problem was to empty all of my temporary files and not to increase the size of them. Like I said, I really dont know. Any help thats good help is much appreciated. Please let me know whats next,Thanks ;)

OK then Doc, the procedure is simple

Open IE select the Tools choice from the top Bar then Internet options and then delete files, you don't need to increase the MB so leave that if your not sure...................Now once you've done that try to download somthing and post me back the results.

The idea is based on the pretty sound bases, and I ain't gonna get techy that if you ain't got room to move, throw out the trash and you should make yourself a little space. Like I said as soon as you got the space fill it with something useful like Firefox.

Because this is not a perminent fix its only temporary so you'll probably only get enough time to download firefox and Hijack, although I'm pretty convinced its not a hijack attemp now, I'm pretty sure its got to do with the new Security features in sp2 but its 230 am here in the UK so I'm not gonna find out tonight.

That is correct.

No offence meant to macseyco, but please do not follow his/her advice about increasing the size of your TIF cache; the smaller that folder is, the better.

I need to log off and start thinking about dinner at the moment, but these entries in your HJT log indicate that you do still have some unresolved problems; hopefully one of our other anti-spyware experts will come online shortly to assist you:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page_bak = http://www.coolsearch.biz/
O19 - User stylesheet: (file missing)

Yep acknowledge that you should keep the size of your tif file as small as poss but as I've already quoted earlier I've got the same problem and in order to get around it so I could work with it I made some changes which worked....I then passed on the knowledge in-order to enable Southernneonser the ability to download hijack which seems to be of great concern within this thread.

Bear in mind that the emptying the tif file is only a temp fix as within a few hours you've got the same problem again, I purely suggested extending the size of the tif for a temp time to allow Southernneonser the time to download hijack and strongly suggest he download firefox to avoid future probs.

These are soluntions which are currently working for me on a computer experiencing the same problems. Which is why I hunted down this forum to see if anyone else had a soluntion, so forgive my lowly ranking I will endeavour to try and make myself worthy.

Scan with HJT and have it fix the following entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://www.zillafind.com/getPageRes...g=true&query=%s
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page_bak = http://www.coolsearch.biz/

Be sure all windows, other then hijackthis, are closed before hitting the Fix button.

Go to the following locations and delete the highlighted file or folder:

C:\Program Files\ISSS
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pc32.exe

I would not recommend connecting your Pocket PC to this computer until it gets cleaned up.

Did you install MagicKey on your computer?

You do have Crypkey software by Kenonic Controls installed on your computer, if it's not something you use, you should consider removing it.

How well do you know the person that put XP on your machine?

Reboot, close any open browser windows, scan with HJT, and post a new log please.

Next, make sure that your browser is closed and go to start/run, type in regedit. You will then have the registry editor. Proceed to back up your registry by clicking on file and export, at which time you will be prompted to save the file. Save it to your desktop by the name of "backup".

Once you are done, look for the Secure IE folder entitled "Secure IE 2004" and remove it. If you still see a folder entitled "Secure IE", remove that also.

I have been working late nights and haven't had a chance to get on my computer. I removed Secre IE from my computer. i also removed al of the things requested and nothing seems to help. My computer worked fine with all of these things on it. SecureIE is the only thing that started acting weird. I am led to believe that it has to be some kind of security measure thats preventing the downloads. Mabe Spybots search and Destroy, or Spyblaster or mabe even the microsoft firewall may be causing the problem. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I have done about all I know to do except call someone out and pay big bucks.
