Welcome To DaniWeb ,
You say it won't let you download anything ,is this with every site you try to download from ,can you post a link to the site you last tried to download from ,thanks
Also the quote you have in your post ,why is it there is it related to you problem .
Edit: i searched around and found the link to the thread you quoted ,it is refering to pages loading in IE ,are you talking about downloading file or all webpages not loading .

Hi Southernneonser, welcome to DaniWeb :) I'm sure you'll fit in just fine around here.

I split your post into it's own thread; we ask that all new problems be started in a new thread regardless of how similar it may be to another one.

Your problem could be due to some firewall or other settings, but before going in to that, try these utilities and see if there is any improvement:

Get IEFix from here:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4467.html

And Winsockfix from here:
http://www.digitalminds.net/index.pl/downloads

If there's still no improvement, try Hoster from here:
http://members.aol.com/toadbee/hoster.zip
Run Hoster and press Restore Original Hosts, OK, and Exit Program.
Note that if you have a custom host file, this will remove it. You can edit the host file with this program too.

Reboot

Let us know the results.

As you can probably tell I am a sign company owner and not a computer person but I do rely on my computer to enhance my business and keep it straight. I tried to download the registry fixers from the hyperlinks you suggested I try. My computer started the downloading process and I watched the files being transfrered and then out poped a box that said "internet Explorer cant download those files because IE cant find them or they dont exist. This happens with everything I try to download. I run spyblaster, spybot search and destroy, and adaware on my computer. I tried to run secure ie but I couldnt get the updates. Every time I tried to download the updates I would get a popup that said the files that store the updates could not be located . I deleted Secure ie. now I cant download anything. If anyone can help please clue me in. Thanks

im trying to learn where to post replies and what a thread is and how to use it. please bare with me. the downloading problem happens with everything I try to download. I think I have deleted some needed files by accident or my security settings are screwed up. The only firewall I have is microsoft xp firewall. I disabled it and tried to download and was unsuccessful. I have turned off every security feature I haver and it still wont download anything. Im not sure what quote message in reply means. Help

You're doing all right, the 'quote message' was referring to a quote that was in your post when I first split it, but I've deleted it now so it is no longer there.

Do you have access to another computer where you can download and save those fixes to a disk or usb drive?

I dont have another computer. I could probably find a friend who would let me send them to him. Better yet , are there any chance you might copy the files to a disk and mail it to me. Any help would be appreciated. I would be willing to send a few bucks for the postage and disk. I spent hours on the computer with Microsoft help and thats like trying to get a dead computer to talk to you. Thanks

What OS are you using? If you PM me your email address, I'll try sending them to you.

Thanks a Bunch. Im not real sure about the computer lingo but I am using Widows Xp and Os. My email address: {Removed}. Southern Neon Service is fthe name of my business. If you wil send me these fixes I would be very greatful. Im learning man so please bare with me. Thanks and happy resurection day.

To use PM (Private Message) here, click on the users name, and then 'Send a private message to...

Check your email for the fixes.

Top of ie browser. Options. Internet options. Make sure your security is set to default. Have to wonder if you have a nasty virus or spyware. If push comes to shove you can reload xp. Reboot and go to the recovery console. I believe its f 10.Make sure you have all important files backed up. If re installing xp is not an option let us know. May come up with more ideas.

I had widows 2000 Installed on my computer in which I do have the disk to but I let a computer guy install a modem for me and while he ha my machine he installed windpows xp for my benefit. I dont hve the xp disk. My security is at default. I till cant download a thing. Im willing to try anything. Thanks

Try using System Restore to return your system to a time before you started having problems; and/or post a HijackThis log in the Virus forum along with a description of your problem.

I am not hear to judge ok. Is this xp legal?. When you reboot do you get the option to do a recovery? I believe its f10. Are you on dial up or dsl. I am almost guessing its a bad install. Do you have a floppy disk? If no virus is found I would almost consider starting from square one. Whipe the hard drive and re install windows 2000 and update it.

I dont know exactly when this started happeningto use system restore. i was unable to download highjackthis but i did find a web site that ran the program for me and I was able to copy the results and save it. Now I dont know how to post it in the virus forum. I bet yall think Im a rocket scientist ha but i bet you couldnt work on a lighted sign very well. Im glad someone knows about computers. any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Go to the Virus forum ( http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/forum64.html ), and click on the New thread button to start a new thread (just as you did when you started this thread).

Copy the entire HijackThis log and paste it into the text box, along with a description of the problem(s) you are having.

I dont know how I ended up here on the second page without any other pages showing. I hope you guys get this post. My computer froze up completely last night. I tried to do a systems restore and it froze up worst. I was finally able to do a ctrl alt delete and get the keyboard to functioning and do another systems restore and get it back to working status. I went through all the steps on the instructions yall gave me and redeleted all original files that you listed. I have done about all i can and the xxxthing stil wont dawnload a thng. I included some things listed in my adaware log I found that you had ask me if i had. Please take a look at the most recent logs and let me know. Thanks
