I've recently noticed that Daniweb doesn't have a board for gaming discussions. Would this be possible? Surely the point of life is to work AND play?

Would you personally like a games board?

I think that would be a great idea since im having to ask gaming questions in the java forum rather than a specific forum for games.

By the way can anyone gove me advice on how to implement a scrabble computer player?? (Like where do i start, whats the thought process??)

Thanks for the feedback, try the coding section for the scrabble doohickey

Hello? Can we have some more feedback on this one please? Just a simple Yes or No would be fine....

I would support a gaming board here, but I don't think it really fits the topic of the site. Having said that however I will say that my board also has off-topic areas, as this one does, where such issues could be discussed. I voted indifferent. ;)

I'm against a gaming board. I bet you guys could have guessed that though, because if I was for it, there would already be one LOL. But basically the reason is because gaming forums and gaming sections bring immature high schoolers and script kiddies to the site, and that's not really the type of audience I want to attract.

hmmm, that's a good point dani.

Maybe we should rethink this one?

I think having a message based called "Games" would be good :)

Right now games are being posted on general discussions and i think they would look better on thier own base!!

Lots of sites have a gaming area and have no issues with it and i think we should also :)

But still we can surely aim for a "game development" message board, can't we guys....;)

You know what they say: there's no such thing as bad publicity.
And you don't have to be high schooler to be immature.

My vote is "yes", but I'm not too unhappy for not having more immature ppl posting immature messages around here.

I'm confused whether you guys are looking for an area to talk about gaming or an area to talk about game development.

Why not both?

Game development would definately bring a different crowd than Playing games. Personally, starting up a gaming section of this website (could) be good, however most people that 'play' games would most likely violate the rules more than the average poster. The trick would be keeping the 'kiddies' out of the other more professional forums, which I don't think would be very easy.

While I think it's possible (and very well could increase usercount) I don't think it would be very easy, and in a site this large already, could get kinda messy.

While I somewhat support the idea of a game development board (a.k.a fielding OpenGL/DirectX q's), a game forum would be distracting.

I voted "no" in support of a Games forum, but the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread was a Game Development forum.

I've been noticing lately that there's no such forum, and it's been bothering me. A Game Development forum would attract lots of discussion about OpenGL, DirectX, and complex 3D math, which is good. One negative consequence of a Game Development forum would be that gamers still would post gaming questions in this forum, which would create more of a load for the moderation staff. But that would be a lot better than a Games forum, which like Dani said, would attract a lot of kiddies and chatroom speak.

After all, isn't the purpose of this site to be a "IT discussion community"? I don't think playing games counts as IT, but creating them certainly does.

I even voiced the same opinion..

But Miss Dani is afraid that there are not too many professionals to handle the forum -- after all there has to be a forum leader.

But who knows, having that kinda forum might attract some pros and we would really set the thing rolling..

I agree with SOS.

So far, all of the people that know "something about something" got here in pursue of some answers to their questions of their (incomplete) realm of knowledge. Same realm of knowledge that got stuck here (in a positive way). Same would happen with professional ans semi-professional game developers. They will google the net searching for keywords, take a look around here, see some Qs they know the answer to, maybe reply, and tadaaa!

Im sorry Dani i dont wanna confuse you...

A general base for Gaming issues (Discussions, playing, compatibility, etc)

Stuff like that belongs in the lounge forums.

But it would be better having its own area!!!

I can see you arent really a gamer so you dont understand i guess...

Its ok though :)

Me not mad or anything (Just trying to make the site even better)

:)

I hear someone likes Sims 2.

Dani isn't a gamer?

Hmmm.. Then why did I spend almost an hour talking to her while she was installing the Sims 2 and all of its’ expansion packs.

It isn't that she is 'not' a gamer, but she is 'more' of a professional.

I could see the Game Development forum, but not the 'playing' video games, as that isn't the intended audience for this site :)

ps. None of what I have said is fact, it is purely personal opinion based on information that I have been privileged with.

On a side note, there are already a 'ton' of gaming websites out there, most of the popular games already have forums with thousands of threads about their game, there really isn't a 'demand' for more :)

Innocent comment: Somebody is gamer in Egypt. (Egypt = state of the Nile)

So is the Game Development forum under consideration...

games (cheats) would be bad

games devel and overclockin would be good

Im sorry i even mentioned it.....

I dont want Dani to get mad at me,she is my friend :)

A DirectX / OpenGL forum is under consideration but I need to do more research first.

ok

by the way, a gaming hardware section might be useful as like 40% of the current harware forum posts are about games hardwaee

a consoles section woule be awesome as the forum could attract attention from the xbox-linux guys

That's what the "Gadgets and Gizmos" forum is for.
