Hello, My name is Lupe Sandoval and I am a student at Reedley College. I am working towards a career in information systems. I know what it takes to be a computer/network tech through web page information and brochures but I would like to know more.
I have attended the Institute of Technology in Clovis, California and have earned my A+ and Network+ certifications from CompTIA. I already have the basic knowledge of computers, like being able to setup a home network, or upgrading the computers hard drive, but my interest in computers has grown deeper, beyond being able to perform these simple tasks.
I am currently working on my A.S. Degree and maybe a Bachelors in computer science. I was wondering if you would answer some of the questions I have included in this message.

Hi and welcome to DaniWeb.

1. What made you want to be a computer or network technician?

Myself i don't like to be called a "Technician" i know to many so called technicians that don't know crap.but the reason i got into them was i like to know what makes things work and once i started on these it is a Non Boring never ending technology.

2. What type of education did you get? and from where?

I have a CompTia A+ cert studying for the Network + also in school for a Associates in Specialized Technology in PC maintenance Technology.

Been studying and repairing computers for 15 years so my biggest education come from the school of trial and error what they teach in school doesn't compare to the real world of doing it.you learn some helpful things in school but actually doing it is somewhat diffrent.

3. Did you get a degree or just certificates? and from where?

Got one Certification A+ working on a 2nd Network+ and a associates degree from Penn Foster college.

4. How long have you been employed as a computer or network technician?

Self employed for about 10 years.

5. How long did it take before you were employed?

As soon as i felt i had enough knowledge to work on others computers without messing them up.

6. What type of problems do you work on?

Any

7. What do you specialize in? and what would be more important now a-days?

Hardware and software problems.

The most important thing to know and understand is security.

8. Is it easier to work on hardware issues or OS issues?

Hardware

9. Is it easier to work on networks or PCs?

PC's

10.What is the hardest part about being a technician?

The people,Sometimes when talking with a client you need to read between the lines.As alot of times they don't know how to explain the problem or know what to call the components.fixing the PC is the easy part compared to decyphering what they are trying to tell you.

If you want to be a computer tech, I'm not so sure computer science is the right degree for you.
