I've installed the development version of CF9 on my PC and checked that all the relevant services have started.
I followed tutorials on which check boxes to tick during the installation.
However, I keep getting the message "This link appears to be broken" when I launch a web page in
a browser.

I have saved a "timetest.cfm" page in the c:\coldfusion9\wwwroot\ folder and specified the URL
http://localhost:8500/timetest.cfm but no joy, get the above error message.

What did I do wrong?

which server you chosen when you install the cf9.
I think you select IIS, so you have to use this link to get your page work

http://localhost/timetest.cfm
or
http://127.0.0.1/timetest.cfm
make sure to put your page under the Inetpub/wwwroot/yourpage here.
