go to www.lynda.com as well. Very good site for tutorials and it has cold fusion tutorials as well. You have to join but there are free videos for most every section. One advantage of CF is its a tag based language similar to html. So its quite a bit easier. Drawback to CF is its not free like PHP is.

Effective with the release of Adobe LiveCycle ES, the Adobe Flex Data Services 2 server product has been rebranded as a Solution Component of LiveCycle ES. This article was written based on Flex Data Services but will likely work as is with LiveCycle Data Services ES. Any articles referring to or using ColdFusion and Flex Data Services are not compatible with LiveCycle Data Services ES. To learn about the new capabilities of LiveCycle Data Services ES, see the tutorials in the LiveCycle Developer Center and read about Adobe LiveCycle Data Services ES.

To be clear, Adobe's ColdFusion engine is not free for production use. Adobe ColdFusion Developer Edition can be used on a development server or workstation for free.

If you're more interested in free, open-source engines, check out the following:

Railo:
http://getrailo.org/

OpenBD:
http://openbluedragon.org/

Both have mailing list support groups that are *super* helpful if you ever need direct support for each engine.

I also found it pretty interesting that ColdFusion is one of the "most loved" programming languages by those who use it:

In short, CFML it's well worth looking into.

There's a respectable set of fairly modern tutorials here:

Hope this helps and feel free to post if you run into anything that's confusing. =)

But, for a local development, Adobe offers Cold Fusion Dev edition, which can be used for free. Then when you are ready to go live, you need to find a hosting service that supports cold fusion.
