i'm not sure if this is the correct forum to start this thread.. my apologies..

my concern is will there be an effect in my site's ranking and visibility if i change my index file from .html to .php? any tips on how to ensure the smooth transition from .html file to .php?

This is not necessarily the correct forum to post this in, but I don't think it has as much to do with the file extension as it has to do with masking the variables in your urls. For example: http://www.seoconsultants.com/articles/1000/urls
