I use RainTPL - simpler than Smarty. The documentation's a little sparse, but it's very lightweight. Love it.

Hmm, site must have been down. Anyway Bishan, if you're still there (?!), I've been using RainTPL on a new project and it's managed to keep me on track. I end up creating silly spaghetti code when producing multilingual sites. This reins in my unruly and wayward nature!
RainTPL has a new framework out: http://www.rainframework.com/
It includes MySQL and common PHP functions (post/get/email/thumbnailer).
