I was just roaming the internet for some interesting reads and I came across [this very interesting paper](http://www.priv.gc.ca/information/research-recherche/2011/forcese_201107_e.asp) about how to define a legal framework for the "reasonable expectation of privacy" when it comes to our new cyber-existence. I thought I'd share it with you guys, and see what you think about agencies being able and allowed to collect and analyse huge amounts of data about any individual they like. The main point of the article is that the conventional wisdom that says that when you roam outside, in public places, you can't expect privacy (i.e., people (incl. authorities) could …

One of my close relative contacted me asking if I can do a 'Shore Interface'(used on ships for management) project for him in .net after that he started talking about registering a company under us, saying "if required we can hire someone for coding". Which makes me feel he only contacted me so he can register company with my help. My concerns are, previously he did same project with his colleagues which never worked for them. These guys had big salaries, 2-3 times of well paid people. Initially they had contacted me to work on it but later they hired …

Advert blocking software is thought to be used by something in the region of just five per cent of online users, or 150 million people of you prefer. It is, however, on the up; research conducted by Adobe and anti-adblocking campaigners PageFair suggests that ad blocking use rose by 70 per cent last year. Of the various options out there, Adblock Plus is one of the best known and most used. Which is why the company behind it, Eyeo GmbH, recently found itself on the sharp end of a court case in Germany seeking an injunction to prevent it from …

So, Microsoft has finally announced that the SkyDrive cloud storage product line is to be renamed OneDrive. This isn't as a result of disappointing user take up leading to a re-branding exercise, it's much more daft than that. Six months ago a judge in a UK court ruled that Microsoft had to drop the name after 17 people contacted BskyB, which owns the Sky TV brand, thinking it also owned SkyDrive. ![b8bbc347cb422023a9fc79e5d3569e53](/attachments/small/0/b8bbc347cb422023a9fc79e5d3569e53.jpg "align-right") This despite the fact that if those 17 hard of thinking folk had looked at the website they might just have noticed the Microsoft branding. This despite …

Hi! I have created my wordpress blog named c-ation[Click Here](http://www.c-ation.com) (I'm not advertising the my blog but, just telling you about it). It's new and has not yet much content. I was thinking of using Google Adsense on it. I have a category of "*Website Reviews*" inside the "*Reviews*" menu. I was thinking of posting some posts on Websites as if I was reviewing them for my users. So, when I'll post a review of any website; should I take permission from that very website to post its review on my website or is it not legal to post reviews …

What's a billionaire to do when he's not in the spotlight so much anymore and maybe getting a little, well... bored? Sue everyone that people are paying more attention to than you, that's what! Interval Licensing, the company owned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, is suing nearly every big name in tech - the lawsuit names AOL, Apple, eBay, Facebook, Google, Netflix, Office Depot, OfficeMax, Staples, Yahoo and YouTube as defendants, alleging violations of patents related to search, multimedia, database management and "screen activity" (e.g. pop-ups.) No specifics just yet on exactly how each company violated the patents, but a …

Before I start, sorry if this is in the wrong place and also I am aware that this is not a legal forum and thus I should take proper legal advice but any heads up would be appreciated. Ok, So I am looking to create and host my own website and also host a friends website on my server, both of which would allow third parties to submit content in the form of forum posts and comments. I have been doing some research into this and now I've become terrified of all the laws and potential consequences that I didn't …

Gary McKinnon, an unassuming 46 year old Londoner who suffers from Asperger's syndrome and depression, is an unlikely man to be making headlines the world over once again. Indeed, across the last decade McKinnon has almost seemed to be a permanent fixture in news media feeds online and off, a thorn in the side of successive British Governments and a man who divides opinion whenever his name is mentioned. Thinking of him as the man who, according to US lawyers, committed "the biggest military computer hack of all time" helps to put the reasons why into perspective. ![dweb-mckinnon](/attachments/small/0/dweb-mckinnon.jpg "align-right") Gary …

A number of the nation's biggest media sites were hit with a lawsuit last week, claiming that they are violating federal eavesdropping and hacking laws by using "zombie cookies." The technology, created by Quantcast, allows sites to use Adobe's Flash player to reproduce tracking files, even after a user has deleted them, according to ZDNet. The lawsuit calls Internet users "fish in a fishbowl," completely exposed to Web sites' all-encompassing and wholesale collection of data, which could then be bought and sold. …

If you use, or operate, a password-free wireless network then legal action being taken in the US by the adult movie industry might just be about to rain on your parade warns one European IT threat mitigation expert. The lawsuit was filed by Liberty Media Holdings, a producer of adult movie content based in San Diego, and accuses in excess of 50 people in Massachusetts (where the lawsuit has been filed) of downloading and consequently sharing a gay porn movie illegally via BitTorrent. The complaint itself makes a point of claiming that the defendants either have direct responsibility as they …

(b) Using the laws of Boolean algebra, derive an expression that uses only OR and NOT operators. First, I am sorry for my poor grammar. :'( I have tried every laws I could find and still couldn't solve it, heres 1 example of what I have done: ABC + A'C' + A'B' = ABC + A'C'(B + B') + A'B'(C+C') = ABC + A'C'B + A'B'C' + A'B'C + A'B'C' = …

Unless you are a techno-luddite of the first order, the chances are that you would agree the Internet has become an integral part of daily life for those blessed with decent access to the thing. But would you agree that broadband access of no less than 1Mbps is your legal right? If you happen to live in Finland, from today it will be. Yes, Finland has become the first country anywhere in the world to make access to the Internet by broadband a legal right for each and every one of its estimated 5,313,399 citizens. But the good news for …

At the State Opening of Parliament, the Queen has been giving her annual speech on behalf of the UK Government. Written by the new Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition Government itself, much of the speech was devoted to the inevitable cost cutting exercises, the 'Big Society' concept and reform in terms of both the electoral system and Parliament itself. However, one thing amongst an otherwise predictably boring speech came, thankfully, near the start, when Her Majesty stated that "my government will support the introduction of high speed broadband access" for the UK. The latest wrinkle in the lost iPhone story - in which someone left the prototype for the iPhone 4 in a bar and website Gizmondo got hold of it - has taken two unexpected turns. First, the police got involved. They have raided the editor's personal property and taken his computers in. This, they say, is because the item wasn't his property. Second, the editor in question is using a legal defence; as a journalist he is allowed to protect his sources and that includes looking at iPhones which were lost. There was never, I add, any question of his …
