In simple Words Search Engine Optimization means developing ,designing or making a site in such a way that it comes first or at least on first page. SEO is done on the basis of some key word. For e.g if your site is about fans then your key word can be "fan" or may be "cool fan" or may be"cheap fan".So that when some one type this key word in search box your site comes at first page. With increasing market the SEO is becoming more and more important to the webmasters.

:) :)

Holy cow Douglas.

I've been coming here to Daniweb for some time now and I've seen a few pink clouding webmaesters [that's a correct spelling variation, I think] puke out some pretty strange definitions for SEO and using some of the most outright infantile spelling inventions one could possibly conceive but I must say, your bizzare blurb takes the cake buddy.

SEO is a process or method to gain higher positions on major search engines through its key phrases.

Surely you jest. Just by reading your short babble I can tell that real SEO is something that you know very little about.

It is possible to attain high rankings in competitive keyphrase environments without using SEO at all, linking strategists accomplish this in practically every Internet industry; but linking strategists are not search engine optimizers (they are search engine manipulators). Big difference between the two skill sets. One needs to develop the craft of SEO copy writing and continuously practice effective optimization of the various web page components while the other needs to learn how to beg, borrow, buy, steal, dump and/or swap links. Both Internet marketing specialists can achieve top results in the SERPs but both cannot keep their dignity in tact during the process.

thanks fred for clearing it out... the difference betweek the SKILL sets of search engine optimizers and manipulator

@canadafred: Thanks for your clarification. It's a pity the way some think that SEO is something 'simple' you can attain overnight.

Whilst the knowledge for same is widely available on the net only very few individuals/organizations have mastered same and with the constant change in the industry one is always learning new things on a daily basis.

SEO composed of ideas and strategies to market a product or site.It is a process that most marketers do today.

SEO is a kind of a profession that needs a lot of time and effort...especially patience.

And without SEO work website cant be done...
Its the key to get traffic and website marketing

SEO is not meant to be that complex and sometimes even Google and Yahoo staff become surprised to find some complicated ideas made by some people who think they know everything. Many sites that are developed naturally are found among the top ranking portals.

SEO is all of the above.

In practical terms its the ability to get a higher rank and virtually the most important thing if your going to do business on the web.

SEO a very important practice to increase the traffic through search engines and require Patience

Its true that optimization doesn't have to be complex, but to say that it "isn't complex" would also be incorrect. The act of optimization can be a range of levels. Basic optimization can cover just the barest of needs such as on page content optimized for a few key phrases, matching titles and meta's and calling it done.

On the other hand there's so much more to it and every aspect of linking one page to another must be addressed. You have to take into account your competition, market conditions, advertising streams, social networking/marketing, brand awareness, image development and protection...and on and on. Optimization isn't just grabbing keywords and building websites around them. (although I sometimes wish it was, clicking my ruby slippers)

Most manipulators work on factors that are external to the site. An SEO expert will focus on the website before concentrating on the external factors.

Optimization isn't just grabbing keywords and building websites around them.

A keyphrase development strategy should be deployed at the onset of launching new web sites. It makes it easier to rank the webpages in the long run when the pages are already heading in the right direction SEO-wise. I usually suggest starting new websites with a theme of five or six related but substantially different keyphrases (that will be offered in the SERPs as results for potentially hundreds of keyword combinations and variations). This original keyphrase list then expands; eventually to include every conceivable keyphrase that will attract a qualified visitor (and still remains pertinent to the specific market sector).

Fred, is that a pen name? How's the fishing? :)

@douglasmartin09

Read this first. This can clear you out what is SEO.

I have read this stream and what I am seeing is some people talking about basic SEO activities and others talking about more in depth SEM initiatives. Everyone can get up to speed on some basic SEO techniques that will give you good rankings but to conduct SEM initiatives you are talking about a lot of planning and taking into consideration the overall marketing plans of the enterprise as a whole. As an example, I worked for a company that used a crappy CSM software (it was free so they loved it) to build a website but they barely added any meta-tags on the home page and none on any of the other pages of the site. Doing some basic SEO processes (adding more specific meta tags, rewriting page content to include keywords), I was able to dramatically affect the page rankings for the site. But because the company's reticence in establishing a marketing budget of any kind, I was unable to formulate an SEM strategy that would have increased the possibility of the website generating serious leads and/or sales.

One of my clients was the polar opposite of yours. They were willing to spend money on PPC and ad streams but ran their site on a crappy and EXPENSIVE ($4000 at a discount) CMS!! After spending a year fighting that thing I convinced them to move everything to Joomla and man has that site improved from bottom to top. Every page has its own titles/tags, sef urls, managing is a snap and layout is fantastic (with 2-3 months invested)... They are now ranking for singular keywords they had never ranked for in the past. Organic traffic has risen to over 75% overall traffic where it was 65% from PPC/PPI.

So for me I was able to formulate a marketing strategy but couldn't combine that with good organics and that was frustrating. Thank god they listened to me.

Thanks for help friend. But let me know one thing internet marketing is different thing.

Internet marketing encompasses seo but not the other way around. You optimize a website to market it to the engines, you buy advertising to market your site to humans. You market yourself, your company, products, services on social sites, otherwise known as social marketing. So marketing caters to both the bots and humans. Marketing is everything, optimization is a segment of marketing.

If you have fresh website then your website require some basic SEO to index your site in Google.

I'm a newbie and for me SEO is optimizing your site to get better traffic and click results by ranking better on search engines. Does that work?

Is internet marketing and SEO is different? If yes then, what’s the primary difference between them?

While SEO was believed to be a part of the technical design of the site, it has become a part of internet marketing and as a result a subset of of overall marketing strategy. Having started in a traditional marketing role before the explosion of the internet I got very used to the concepts of ROI and laying claim to affecting a revenue stream. SEO and SEM are also subject to justification through ROI. Bascially, Internet Marketing is a group of activities and SEO/SEM is one of those activities.

If you have fresh website then your website require some basic SEO to index your site in Google.

You can also use PPC service from Google.
