The HP DV series laptops are well known for graphics failure. It is down to a combination of poor design and poor manufacturing quality. If it is still under warranty then get it back to HP as a proper repair can be very very expensive.

I'd say you have no choice but to take it to a professional for diagnosis. It's most likely that an internal surface mount fuse has blown as this is quite common. Unless you are an expert on surface mount components, I doubt you will be able to find and replace …

That's not classed as a black screen if you have a blinking cursor. The blinking cursor indicates that your operating system has failed rather than any of your hardware. Press F8 just after your bios screen and see if you can boot into safemode. If you are able to do …

The first thing you need to do is test your hard drive. You will need to take it out and test it with another computer with a usb adapter and hdtune which can easily be found with google.

If you have one, try a different monitor. If you don't have a spare monitor see if you can borrow one for a day or 2. What exactly have the repair shop done to your computer?

If you get this happen as soon as windows boots then it's more likely to be a resolution or refresh rate problem. Press F8 just after your bios screen and before windows begins and select safe mode. In safe mode, you will be able to lower your resolution and/or refesh …

Is it a laptop or a PC? What windows version are you trying to install? Why are you trying to install? Are you trying to get a different OS on or did the previous one fail? If it failed, any idea why? We need more info in order to help.

There's a good few infections showing in your log. You should run mbam on it. https://www.malwarebytes.org/ then post it's log in this thread.

The most common cause of a problem like that is the capacitors on your motherboard, check to see if any of them are domed or leaking. If any are then they need to be replaced.

If you have the equipment, you need to take the hard drive out of your laptop, connect it to a usb adapter and test it with another computer.

Dell's cannot be cleared via the cmos battery. You have 2 options. 1- Contact Dell and be prepared to prove ownership of your laptop. 2- Take it to a repair shop and have them replace the security chip with a blank one. This can be expensive.

The first thing you should do is check your hard drive for bad sectors. Hdtune is a good tool for this, get the free version. http://www.hdtune.com/download.html

I will give that a try tomorrow. I have a laptop with 7 on it in my workshop that has an admin pasword on it. It was put on by the son of the owner and the son either doesn't know the password or won't say what it is.
