Can Barack Obama save America?

2009 begins with a bang! The world is about to witness a very historical moment as president-elect Barack Obama assumes the reins, becoming America's first black president. After all the inauguration madness settles, it will be time to get down to business.

Considering the hostility that sometimes rears its ugly head in American politics, I am very worried that he steps into the White House at a very bad time, he will work under tremendous pressure. Personally, I don't think he can achieve what he promises to do; get Republicans and Democrats to work together and all that.

Can he deliver?

Well, it took George Bush eight years to make such an ungodly mess, so it will take Barack Obama and his team a little while to fix it. The first things you may see is that the torture of prisoners is gone, and the US will treat other countries like partners and not like door mats.

The President is not a miracle worker -- although I think that was one of his campaign promises :) All presidential-hopefuls promise things in their campaigns that they can't possibly fullfill, or that they later decide are unworkable. And I wouldn't be supprised if Obama is the same.

He promised us Change.

He begins that by stacking his cabinet and senior positions with recycled Clinton era political hacks.

Turning the Oval Office into a tropical greenhouse , as he tells us we must cut back on energy usage.

Q: How do you get a Democrat politician to pay all his taxes?

A: Appoint him to a cabinet position.

You creepy conservatives give us 8 years of sh*t with Bush; you complain because we talked trash about Bush and didn't give him a chance; now you talk trash about our president.
Let's quote VP Cheney on the economy:
We did worry about [the economy], to some extent.

Let's count the blessings of the conservative free market:
Enron
Peanut Corp. of America
Bernie Madoff
Senator 'wide stance'
Rep. Foley
8 years of partisan politics - now whining about the lack of bipartisanship because no one wants another 8 years of tax-cut based negative economy
Alberto "I am a victim" Gonzales
Let's not forget Jack Abramoff - he is still dragging down Repube/conservatives - Fraser Verrusio is just the most recent; so far he seems to have tainted most of the Republican party.
You guys got so much to be proud of.

Saving America is our job, not the president's.
Half of the voters fell for the republicans scare tactics or voted for social causes that are not relevant to America's future.
The democrats failed to put up a decent candidate, so even a moron like Bush was able to flimflam the public, twice.
Get educated. Vote with your brain. Write your representative.

We cannot judge Obama for now since he is yet to show anything that might say otherwise, the one thing we can do now, is just to believe in him and have faith in him that he can do it. That he can save America.

I think he can do it....its not possible to change the whole situation with single hand it needs support of all. So its our responsibility to give our scope to come out from this negative economy... I hope he will save America.

You guys may laugh, but I think social media will have a strong effect on politics from now on. In this way, there are less secrets that can be kept, news stories can become viral in a matter of hours, and more and more people are engaged with what's going on and talking about it. So, I think he has to be more accountable, and his administration's already acknowledging the importance of Web 2.0.

And false stories spread even faster than facts. And seem to persist longer. And the administration knows that as well.

One "change" the President has already made is conducting "town hall meetings ". He had one just today in Elkhart, Indiana. To my knowledge no other President has ever done that. Usually when they get into the white house they just stay there.

Oowh! I just got all tingling of excitement inside, hearing of such achievement already.
Here, a little bit more of the promised change.

Aia, just about every use of the word 'socialism' when replaced with the phrase 'free market' pretty much describes how we got into the hole we are in now. The Cheney-Bush Recession Compared with 8 Predecessors

I am glad you got all tingling about the town meeting - a completely open town meeting where anyone who got a fcfs ticket got in. When is the last time that happened? At least 8 years ago. Bush needed paid shills in the house to ask soft ball questions.

Obama openly talks and listens to the folks that actually suffer. Bush would have held his show in front of military folks at a some base. There is hope!

Very few Americans like socialism. And even fewer like the Bailout plan that is being formed in Congress. But what else can we do? I haven't heard of a single alternative and positive proposal. Doing nothing is not a viable solution because it will probably just make things worse than it is now.

And we can't point fingers just at the Bush administration -- this has been brewing every since Jimmy Carter. It is the "American Dream" that everyone owns their own home -- and a huge one at that. According to 2000 statistics the average size of the American household is 2.58 people. According to the National Association of Home Builders, the average home size in the United States was 2,330 square feet in 2004, up from 1,400 square feet in 1970 . So why do people need such large homes when they can't afford the house payments ? And what do they do with those large homes once they become empty nesters?
