does anyone know of, or can recommend from experience, a good application that can create reports from large databases?
i've heard of crystal reports but i've been told by others in the industry that it is a bit limiting; i've tried MS access and that is very limited on what you can accomplish.

I dont know on which plantform you are working. But if you are thinking about Crystal reports, I think you are intersted in working on Visual studio platform.
If you consider visual studio there are various third party tools available for creating reports from large database. Most popular are
1. Devexpress Tools
2. Telerik Tools.
