Doing forum posting, bookmarking, blog commenting. As per my experience you will get good ranking on your keywords.

first you should do dir,bookmarking,and article after you will see that your keyword on top

You should do off-page tasks like directories, bookmarkings, forums, blog commenting, etc. And change content after sometime. Then you will your keywords on top or in first page.
