Trojan horse BackDoor.Generic8.ZST
Dear fellows

I should be grateful if anyone has a cure to this.
I have an external hard disk which shows an infection with
(Trojan horse BackDoor.Generic8.ZST) when scanned with
AVG 7.6.516.After healing is carried out and the scan made
again, the trojan horse threat shows again.

okay well those bottom entries that are these :

023 entries with (File missing) after them are not necessarily missing. Hijackthis sometimes has problems here .

those need to be removed because the fies are missing so they r basically useless

and u should download SpybotS&D and ccleaner, you can get them both at www.filehippo.com

AFTER U REMOVE ALL OF THOSE RESTART YOUR COMPUTER

Thank you for your quick response.
I have downloaded installed and run the two programs that you suggested and cleaned up the threats that were detected by the the two programs.
I have removed the files that appear in the Hijack This log with (file missing remark) that you suggested. With O2 and O3 there are no problems. However the ones under O23 appear again after I restart the computer and carry the Hijack This run. Please note that I am connected to LAN and it could be that those files are being written again by some network running programs. I tried restarting without connecting the network cable and running hijack This but again the three O23 files appear after suposedly being deleted by hijack This. Again if I try to access the external Hard disk I get the same previous warning threar of Trojanhorse backdoor generic8.ZST. The AVG only gives me the option to ignore. For heal, or move to vault options, it gives the message "requested action is not available for this object".

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".


The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

I deleted the O18 file entry, but could not find the SmitfraudFix folder after starting in the safe mode.

I suggest that before deleting any legitimate 023 entry with (file missing) after it, that you confirm that the actual program/service does not exist.
You should delete the actual file too here;
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ebkp.dll

I have deleted the C:\WINDOWS\system32\ebkp.dll actual file.
