OK I fixed my iBook but im gonna give it to a family member for Christmas and am wondering when is the best time to get a new Macbook Pro. Do mac's come out in yearly models so if I buy one now they will have a new model in January or what. And is the new iLife package come out after the new year or before? thanks in advance.

Apple doesn't tend to be that exact when releasing new Mac models. As for iLife release dates, those are usually released before the new year.
