Hi, I'm building a RAID array with 5 SATA drives (WD250gb). I'm using the broadcom RAIDcore 8 port adapter.

I have a brand new Antec 530W power supply.

For some reason, I can't get all the drives to spin up. I generally get the controller to recognize 2 drives okay, plus one or two as "offline" with error 1039 (can't find the error summary on their website).

If I disconnect the power from the other drives, I get 2 to work reliably.

If I have all the drives connected to power, and connect the drives to the motherboard SATA controller, they generally don't work either.

I'm obviously thinking power supply, but I'd think an Antec 530w would be fine, no? Also, why would some drives spin, and other not? Could the power supply be "partially" bad?

I have the o/s on an IDE drive, it works perfectly and the system starts up and runs fine, less the SATA drives.
