I finally broke down and joined the 21st century and got a computer. I can't get dsl. Can anyone suggest the best all around dial up modem? I understand a controller is best. Is that the same as a DSP gizmo? Would like to use a card if possible to save space. Also interested in modem on hold so my wife can stop missing her calls. Linux compatibility would be nice as although new, I dont like MS too much. My machine is an AMD64-3000, 1 gig memory 160 hd. Thanking you in advance for your consideration, JG.

Newegg has this US Robotics modem on sale. It has the features you requested.

I solved the missed call problem by adding busy call forward and had my cell phone number listed as the forwarding number.
