i have this old machine about 3 years old. recently it started restarting on its own. today was the worst. it restarted when power came back on, monitor wasnt getting any data(idle), the READ LED was steady at on, and it wont boot on bios anymore.
everything else is spinning fans,hard drive the optical drive.
question is CPU or Motherboard?

found out the problem it was on the motherboard. blown capacitor. anyway stil have a problem with it now changed the motherboard all parts compatible with the motherboard by it did a random restart after 7 hrs of testing.
any ideas why it restarted?
You might like to check your PSU. It may just be a conicidence that both are having problem or you might have even kicked a cable out under the desk
