Download and run killbox.
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.exe

Stay offline when doing the following fix.

Scan with hijackthis and tick the boxes next to all the following entries, then close all browser and explorer windows, and hit the "Fix checked" button.

Open killbox and paste in C:\WINDOWS\TASKMAN.EXE

With the full path to the file name in the topmost textbox, click the option *replace on reboot* and *Use Dummy* which will create a numbered dummy file instantly for you.

Click the Red X ...and for the confirmation message that will appear, you will need to click Yes
A second message will ask to Reboot now? you will need to click No (since you are not finished adding all related files in yet)

Repeat the above for each of these;

C:\WINDOWS\system32\iptw32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\eojjf.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\javaaz32.dll
C:\DOCUME~1\Bradley\LOCALS~1\Temp\2.tmp.exe 0 10001

On that last file, close all programs and Reboot your computer.

Post another hijackthis log please.

Here is my new Hijack Log:
I did all that you said, and when I rebooted the computer, a message came up saying something about the "C:\Windows\system32\iptw32.exe performing an illegal operation" I clicked "Close" to terminate the problem. Is this bad?

Message should go once you are clean.

Download Registrar Lite from here:
http://www.resplendence.com/download/reglite.exe

Put it in its own folder. You may want to keep this program. It is an excellent free, registry editor.

Install, run, copy and paste this line to reglite's address bar:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\AppInit_DLLs

and hit the "go" tab. Find: "Appinit_Dlls" value on the right side panel, DoubleClick, copy and post here the information in the 'Value' field.

Download

http://www.downloads.subratam.org/DllCompare.exe

Run Dllcompare, by clicking the "Run Locate.com" then click Compare button... when done post that log here.

I downloaded and ran Registrar Lite, and went to the address you said to go to, but there was no "Appinit_Dlls" on the right hand pane.
It has:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\(default)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\DeviceNotSelectedTimeout
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\GDIProcessHandleQuota
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\Spooler
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\swapdisk
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\TransmissionRetryTimeout
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\USERProcessHandleQuota

So I dont know what to do.

OK Just do the dllcompare log please.

Reboot and post another log please (hijackthis)

Download FxAgentB.exe from here and save it to your desktop. After downloading, double-click the FxAgentB file to run it and the program will scan your entire hard drive - this may take a while. When it is done, it will generate a log file called FxAgentB.log - save that information as you will need to paste it here later. Reboot when done.

Next click here to download CWShredder by Merijn Bellekom and run it, hit 'fix' as opposed to 'scan only'. If you already have CWShredder, click 'Check for update' and make sure you are running version 1.59.1. Reboot when done.

Then click here to download Ad-Aware SE and install. Before scanning click on "check for updates now" to make sure you have the latest reference file. Click "Start", select "Perform Full System scan" and "Next" to start the scan. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next". The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".

Reboot when done, rescan with HijackThis and post a new log here, together with the FxAgentB log and a new DllCompare log.

I didn't spend much time looking at the HijackThis log, so there may be more than what I point out.

What jumped out at me is all the 'R1' listings. I think you should delete them (or as HijackThis says 'fix them').

From there, look into your Norton antivirus, looks like it is partially disabled. See when the last full scan was. You can do an online scan (the words 'online scan' with google will get a lot of choices, personally I go with 'housecall' by Trend Micro).

I'd say the path to go into the registry and repair the homepage, but a mistake could be fatal.
Instead (if you want), open Notepad and save the created page to your desktop with a .reg extension (you can name the first bit whatever you like, but might as well call it homepage.reg), after you copy the following text into it.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Start Page"="http://www.yahoo.com"

Normally I have my homepage set to google, but to be on the safe side I made this with the page set to yahoo and ran it to make sure it works.
The www ---.com you can put whatever page you want.

After saving it, double click on it, choose 'yes' and then you are safe to delete it.

That in itself does not get rid of this particular infection :).

Getting somewhere now :). The reason I didn't do this first is because I was under the impression that this version of hijackthis showed the service in the 023 section. There are three different services that are created by this infection and one of them I have seen in the log. Anyways...........

You may want to print out these directions as the Internet will not be available. Please continue with the next step if you run into a problem with the current one. Just be sure to let us know what the problem was when you reply.

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Please download About:Buster from here: http://tools.zerosrealm.com/AboutBuster.zip Once it is downloaded extract it to
c:\aboutbuster. We will use that program later in this process.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode and follow these steps:

Step 1:

Click on start, then control panel, then administrative programs, then services. Look for a service called Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper. Double click on that service and click stop and then set the startup to disabled. Also write down the name and path of the file listed in the Path to executable field. This filename must be deleted below.

Step 2:

Press control-alt-delete to get into the task manager and end the follow processes if they exist:

apilp.exe
TASKMAN.EXE

Step 3:
I now need you to delete the following files:

C:\WINDOWS\apilp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\TASKMAN.EXE

C:\WINDOWS\system32\jbzsg.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mspd32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\iptw32.exe

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. if it is uncheck it and try again.

Step 4:
Then close all programs and windows and run hijackthis. Put a checkmark next to each of these entries and press the fix button when ready:
<insert all the RO/R1,O2, and O4 lines>

Step 5:

In the next step we are going to remove a service that gets installed by this malware.

Go to Start>Run and type regedit.

Press enter.

Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper

If Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper exists , right click on it and choose delete from the menu.

Now navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY_Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper

If LEGACY_Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper exists then right click on it and choose delete from the menu.

If you have trouble deleting a key. Then click once on the key name to highlight it and click on the Permission menu option under Security or Edit. Then Uncheck "Allow inheritible permissions" and press copy. Then click on everyone and put a checkmark in "full control". Then press apply and ok and attempt to delete the key again.

Step 6:

This is the step where we will use About:Buster that you had downloaded previously.

Navigate to the c:\aboutbuster directory and double-click on aboutbuster.exe When the tool is open press the OK button, then the Start button, then the OK button, and then finally the Yes button. It will start scanning your computer for files. If it asks if you would like to do a second pass, allow it to do so.

When it completed move on to step 7.

Step 7:

Copy the contents of the Quote Box below to Notepad.
Name the file as fix.reg
Change the Save as Type to All Files
Save this file on the desktop

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\HSA]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\SE]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\SW]

Then double-click on the fix.reg file, and when it prompts to merge say yes, and this will clear some registry entries left behind by the process.

Step 8:
Reboot your computer back to normal mode so that we can see if we need to restore some deleted files:

  • Download the Hoster from here. Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program. This will restore the original deleted Hosts file.
  • If you have Spybot S&D installed you will also need to replace one file. Go here: Merijn's Files (sdhelper) and download SDHelper.dll. Copy the file to the folder containing you Spybot S&D program (normally C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy). Then click Start > Run > regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SDHelper.dll" and press the OK button
  • If you are using Windows 95, 98, or ME it is possible that the malware deleted your control.exe. Please check for the existence of this file by going to to Merijn Files control.exe and examine where the file should be for your operating system. If the file is missing then download the appropriate file and place it in the proper place according to this information.
  • Open IE, go to Tools>Internet Options>then click on the security tab, then click on custon label. Check the following settings:
    • Download Signed ActiveX controls-set to Prompt.
    • Download Un-Signed ActiveX controls-set to Disable.
    • Initialize and script ActiveX controls marked as unsafe-set to disable.

    Step 9:

Run an online antivirus scan at:

    http://housecall.antivirus.com/

Reboot and post another hijackthis log.

Here is the new hijackthis log...
Step 3, I couldnt find apilp.exe, and jbzsg.dll
Step 5 didnt seem to apply since I couldnt find any of those files listed.
And in Step 8, I got confused on the whole control.exe part. I have XP so I wasnt sure how much of that applied.

:). Not everything in the to do list will be found, but it is important for them to be looked for.

Scan with hijackthis and tick the boxes next to all the following entries, then close all browser and explorer windows, and hit the "Fix checked" button.

Apart from that, you are looking good. A firewall would be a good thing to get though. A free one in the link in my Sig :).

It worked! Thanks, youre a genius.
