Major SLOW!!!

Hello all,

Well i got an ipod touch yesterday and pretty much since then, my PC has been REALLY slower then usual!

There are a lot of svchost.exe files running and that is not normal!

My brother's PC which is single core is faster then my dual!

Even task manager is freezing!

My PC has NEVER been this slow!!!

The hijackthis log above is not showing all of the processes running, i tried renaming it, and that didn't help....

Whats eating your RAM and CPU under task manager?

Okay delete the following:

It seems to be a lot quicker now... not sure why, but my brother was copying a few gigs of music to PC, but even before that it was slow.....

I'm the only user on the PC, and yes i am admin...

2GB Ram
AMD 4000+ Stock....

I was able to multi task all of the time...... and itunes doesn't use much.....

so i'm not sure.....

Admin user on vista isnt a real admin, its a fake pseudo-admin. To be a real admin, right click Hijackthis exe and choose run as admin.

I don't see anything bad in there either. But one thing you CAN do to check out what you feel may be too many svchost.exe files running is to find out what each of those is associated with. To have a lot running is really not unusual.
Checking in Task Manager in Vista is one way to find out exactly what is associated with each;
You can right-click on a particular svchost.exe process, and then choose the "Go to Service" option. This will flip over to the Services tab, where the services running under that svchost.exe process will be selected and than you can see the real name under the Description column, so you can choose to disable the service if you don't want it running.

Check out the iTunes.exe, big user, along with Firefox. I don't have an iPod but daughter and granddaughter's do. I have all the software installed for when they visit but leave it turned off unless they are here and using it. Makes a HUGE difference when it is turned on.
Turn off the iTunes.exe and iPod Service, see if it makes a difference. Know it did when I turned off mine.

Look at what gets installed and enabled in Services with an iPod;
Apple Mobile Device-AppleMobileDeviceService.exe
Bonjour Service-mDNSResponder.exe
iPod Service-iPodService.exe.

Use the HJT program to see a full listing of all processes running.
To access the process manager, you should click on the Config button and then click on the Misc Tools button. ou should now see a new screen with one of the buttons being Open Process Manager.
If you would like to see what DLLs are loaded in a selected process, you can put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Show DLLs, designated by the blue arrow in the figure above. This will split the process screen into two sections. The first section will list the processes like before, but now when you click on a particular process, the bottom section will list the DLLs loaded in that process.

Bonjour isnt strictly needed unlesss you use media sharing, and could be considered a security risk - but the other two are needed if you want to use your ipod. iTunes is bloatware, but with apple you have no choice but to use it.

True, but they can be turned on manually when needed, they don't require running all the time. As I said, this is what I do when my granddaughter visits, re-enable, takes all of 10 seconds. When it is no longer needed, turn it totally off.

It is users choice really. At least you know they are not taking up resources for no reason just sitting there.
