Inundated with popups

This started out as a problem with numerous popups and windows with Aurora in the window border. Urls I entered in address bars would also be redirected after I clicked go. After following the preliminary steps ..
(I originally prepared this for another Forum but their server crashed before i could send earlier this AM. I have run
Adaware SE 1.6r1
CwShredder
Spybot S&D
Ewidow
TDS3
I use AVGFree 7.0.322 on this system for AV control)

I am still having various windows popping up with the ad blocked. The popups no longer say Aurora. At times they come in quite a flurry.

My OS is XP home 2002 w/ SP2 My browser is IE 6

There are a some item(s) i'm not familar with in your log and cannot get info on. If you recognise any, then just omit them from this fix.

We'll need to unload (not uninstall) Intermute's SpySubtract, since it might interfere with other program(s) we might be using to 'clean' off your system.

===============

Go to www.trendmicro.com, and then:

1. Click "Free Online Scan".
2. Click "Scan now, it's free".

It'll take a few minutes to download (especially with a dialup connection), so be patient. When it's down:

1. Select all available drives.
2. Check(tick) "Auto Clean".
3. Click "Scan".

When it completes, post back the full filename of any files that cannot be cleaned or deleted.

Now, let's open a command prompt by going to the start menu and then select 'Run'.

In the box that pops up type in 'cmd'. The command prompt will open.

OR

You can go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt. Unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:

regsvr32 /u zkxol.dll

It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save typing them in.

Let's look for, and delete, any program segments(prefetches) that might be present, and are associated with the 'problems' we're trying to remove from this system. To do this, let's:

1) Click "Start | Search", then search for each of these program's base name(s), in all files and folders:

khfc.exe*

2) Then if any are found in the 'prefetch' folder, delete them.

Look closely, since the 'base' name will have a bunch of random numbers and letters attached to it.

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click "Open the Misc Tools Section"
2. Click "Open Process manager"

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

To help protect your system from hostile ActiveX content, or special 'downloadable' files:

Download, install and keep updated, SpywareBlaster. If you've installed it for the first time:

1) Check for any available updates; if present, they'll be automatically downloaded and installed.
2) Next, "Enable all protection".
3) Exit the program.

And successfully fixed those. Of the files and folders, only C:\Program Files\MarketBrowser was found and I deleted as directed.

I have prepard this entire reply without interruption, so knocking on wood, we may have a fix.

As noted earlier I run AVG Free and have had no viruses detected the last few days.
You mentioned adding and running Spyware Blaster. Would this be in place of or in conjunction with Spy Subtract? Thank you. My last HJT follows and I will check back for any further replies & instructions or update this thread ifrequested or have any new disruptions.

There are a some item(s) i'm not familar with in your log and cannot get info on. If you recognise any, then just omit them from this fix.

We'll need to unload (not uninstall) Intermute's SpySubtract, since it might interfere with other program(s) we might be using to 'clean' off your system.

Go to www.trendmicro.com, and then:

1. Click "Free Online Scan".
2. Click "Scan now, it's free".

It'll take a few minutes to download (especially with a dialup connection), so be patient. When it's down:

1. Select all available drives.
2. Check(tick) "Auto Clean".
3. Click "Scan".

When it completes, post back the full filename of any files that cannot be cleaned or deleted.

Now, let's open a command prompt by going to the start menu and then select 'Run'.

In the box that pops up type in 'cmd'. The command prompt will open.

OR

You can go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt. Unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:

regsvr32 /u zkxol.dll

It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save typing them in.

Let's look for, and delete, any program segments(prefetches) that might be present, and are associated with the 'problems' we're trying to remove from this system. To do this, let's:

1) Click "Start | Search", then search for each of these program's base name(s), in all files and folders:

khfc.exe*

2) Then if any are found in the 'prefetch' folder, delete them.

Look closely, since the 'base' name will have a bunch of random numbers and letters attached to it.

1. Click "Open the Misc Tools Section"
2. Click "Open Process manager"

Had a hard time with this one. Did remember to disable SpySubtract.
I have been running trouble free to the naked eye since the previous fix but followed your instructions.

The 02-BBO: (noname) - {22...} fixed with no problem but the 023 - Service...\hiieaf.exe would not fix and I could not delete the exe file from the System32 folder. It would act as if it was deleting and then file icon would reappear. Out of curiosity I scanned the file with Ewidow and it detected Trojan Painwin.a

After switching to Safe Mode I was able to delete the file and then run the fix in HJT resulting in the following log...

Download the Pocket KillBox
Unzip the file to your desktop.
Run Pocket Killbox and paste the full file path of the below file in the box and click on Standard File Kill and End Explorer Shell While Killing File. Click on the button with the red circle and an X in the middle after you the file.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\guarnset.exe

Reboot afterwards if the file is successfully deleted.

If the file is not deleted, do not reboot yet. Run Pocket Killbox again and paste the full file path in the box and click on Delete on Reboot. Next click on the button with the red circle and an X in the middle. You will get a message saying "File with be deleted on next reboot, Process and Reboot now?" Click "Yes" to reboot.

Ran Pocket Killbox and received message that file did not appear to exist. Ran again as directed. After asking if I indeed wanted to reboot and I entered "Yes", the following two events occurred...
