I would appreciate anyone's help. I've tried whatever i could find online but i may have fiddled around with the settings on my computer so much that i've made it worse. Mozilla Firefox and Outlook seems to be working fine. I can connect through with those programs. However anything involving IE, Hotmail, or Messenger related is unable to connect. I've tried turning my firewalls off, connecting directly to the cable outlets, etc. Anyways, my HJT file is as a follows if anyone can help. Thank you.

Try WinsockXPFix --WinsockXPFix

Run it, and click the Fix button; choose YES when asked if you want to proceed.

If it still doesn't work, try IEFix -- http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm

Follow the instructions in the last link below for putting HijackThis into its own permanent folder and then post a new log.

I appreciate your advice, dlh. Thanks a lot. I gave both of those programs a try. However IE is still not connecting. Do you think this is virus related? I was wondering if my firewall settings went overzealous.....either way i ran another hijack this log if it offers any clues. If you had anymore alternatives, I'd definitely give it a go. :)

Scan with HijackThis and have it fix the following entries:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nsajauo] C:\WINDOWS\System32\gqokvbf.exe
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - (no file)

Close any open windows, other then HijackThis, and hit Fix checked.

Go to C:\WINDOWS\System32 and delete gqokvbf.exe (if the file can't be deleted, try booting into Safe Mode first).

Empty your Recycle Bin and reboot normally.

If you still can't connect, you may get better responses posting your question in the Windows Software forum (without the HJT log).

aw vell, no dice. I'm getting 'page cannot be displayed' on IE and then also 'error 80072efd' on messenger. same as before. my mac friends are smirking. anyways, thanks so much for your help. i will give the software forum a try.
