For every internet page I open I get the annoying "Invalid Syntax Error", also the address bar changes his text, for example: from http://www.hotmail.com to http:///?%20www.hotmail.com

ive just downloaded Hijack this...this is what its giving me...what should i do?

Heh alrite, your HJT folder is in a temporary folder, SO, what we're gonna do is this:

1) create a new folder in Program Files, named 'HJT'.
2) drag the HJT icon into this new folder, and now run HJT from here.

Next, follow this by uninstalling the following programs via Add/Remove Programs:

MessengerPlus3
Internet Optimizer

Now, download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Fix the following entries:

1) Then please reboot into Safe Mode by restarting your computer and pressing F8 as your computer is booting up. Then select the Safe Mode option.

2) Once in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

3) Select "delete on reboot" and put a check in the "unregister dll.

4) Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\nem220.dll

5) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

6) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..

Let the system reboot.

Now, reboot into safe mode again.

Delete the following Folders:

C:\Program Files\MessengerPlus! 3
C:\Program Files\Internet Optimizer

1) Once in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

2) Select "Delete on Reboot".

3) Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

Ok, first thing, I want to double check that last file is deleted. I had a typo in the last post:mad:

For the very last file I mentioned, this should be the correct filename:
C:\WINDOWS\sypjp.exe
(in other words, its the same, without the '[ b] and such. Ya might need to refollow the last process I mentioned, and be sure to delete that folder.

Ok, good.

Now, uninstall the following programs via Add/Remove Programs:

WinAmp
SaferScan

After this, open HJT and fix the following:

Now, restart the computer, and follow up by downloading Ewido Security Suite.

• Install ewido security suite
• When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
  • Install background guard
  • Install scan via context menu
• Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
• The program will now open to the main screen.
• When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
• You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click Update.
  • Then click on Start Update.
• The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. The status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"
• Click on Scanner
• Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
• You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
• Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
• Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
• Click Save report.
• Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.

Now, post back here with the Ewido log, and a new HJT log.

Well everytime i go to the websites i used to be able to go on no problem, it used to redirect me to "Internet optimizer" but now, its giving me the "Cannot find server page"

Hmm- not quite clean, judging from this entry in your last log:

You will need to close/quit all web browser programs and disconnect from the Internet for much of the following, so you should print out these instructions or save them into a text file with Notepad.

1. Download and install CCleaner. Don't actually run the program yet.

2. Open ewido. In the main screen, click "Update" and click "Start Update". After the update process completes, exit from Ewido.

3. Reboot into Safe Mode (you get to the safe mode boot option by hitting the F8 key as your computer is starting up) and:

* Open Windows Explorer, and in the Folder Options->View settings under the Tools menu, select "show hidden files and folders", and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extentions for known file types".

* Open/Run CCleaner.
- Go to Options-> Advanced: Uncheck "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours"
- Go to Options>CustomFolders>Add Folder>Navigate to these folders (click on bold file once and hit OK) :
* C:\Windows\Temp
* C:\Windows\Prefetch
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ (This will delete all your cached internet content including cookies.)
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp
* C:\Documents and Settings\<any other user's Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other user's Profile>\Local Settings\Temp
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Cookies
* C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Cookies
Hit OK

- In left pane, scroll down to "Advanced, Custom Folders", put a check in Custom Folders
- Click on Run Cleaner
It may take a while for the program to perform its cleaning, so be patient. Close the program when it has finished.

* Run ewido again; have it fix all malicious items it finds. Save the log file that ewido will create after it finishes scanning; you'll be including that log in your next post here.

* Open Windows Explorer, look for the C:\Program Files\ISTsvc, and delete that folder entirely if it still exists.

4. Empty your Recycle Bin, reboot normally.

5. Click on the "Run..." option in your Start menu. In the "Open:" box of the resulting window, type "cmd" (omit the quotes) and hit Enter. This will bring up a DOS window
* At the DOS prompt, type the following command and hit Enter. Close the DOS box once the command completes:
ipconfig /flushdns

6. Run HijackThis again, and post the new log. Also post the log that ewido generated.
