I was advised to use my Windows CD to repair some files and find that I now have 2 sets of system files on my machine. They are:
C:\System.1st 4,797 1ST File 10/21/04
C:\System.new 6,045 NEW File 5/23/05

How can I safely get rid of the earlier one, regain disk space AND save my configuration as it is now? Machine runs perfectly.

Thanks for any and all help.

Surely windows files aren't taking up that much space. I wouldn't worry about deleting them
