Hi - I'm new to Daniweb and have been looking for a solution for a problem I have been trying to solve for three weeks.
My secondhand 1.4 Ghz Pc came with XPpro. I recently bought Windows Genuine because I started getting a message that Windows may not be genuine and couldn't get support.
Having upgraded, I now find that I cannot use Windows AutoUpdate. I get a message Error 1083 - the program that this service is configured to run in is not implemented. I have tried a lot of hints including editing Netsvcs in Registry (reluctantly!) to include WUAUSERV and BITS. Also reinstalling SP2 with no change.

Can anyone help before I throw the hardware out?
