Hi.
I have my Windows Updates set to automatic, I get the message to install updates, a total of 83, but when it tries to install them they fail and say the updates could not be installed.
I also have a definition update for defender, this gives an error code of: 0x80004002
I'm runing XP Home, with IE7. I've recently had to reinstall XP to overcome a different problem. Could this be the reason why my updates won't install?
Has any one got any ideas to try, cheers

Hi, I'm sorry but that didn't help. The suggested programmes they reckon may be installed on my pc are not there.

I saw that too - but the class of problem is likely to be similar if not the same.
It can surely only be something interfering with the downloader.
