Hi there, i was thinking of building an instant messaging systemon a LAN, for my final year project. Dont know how to go about it, really need ideas. I was planning on using java sockets to create the system. Any helpful tips will be really appreciated.

Try VB6... there are cool tools in the Inet tool and Socket. Also, an easier one is ASP and JavaScript. Siply, with an Access DB, you can make messages and refresh with Javascript so you reader can view. But, then again, you can call upon another user like you could if you go with VB Socket and Inet Tools.
