How come MS SQl Server 2000 does not have an autonumber datatype as like MS Access does?

This belongs in the MSSQL forum, but the corresponding datatype is the more powerful identity data type. I don't think it supports 'random' like access, but you can start from any number, and you can set how much the step should be (so it would number 1,3,5,7,9, etc with a step of 2)
