Changing resolution from 32 bits to 256 colors

Hi Guys;
Im doing a BNC, and I need to change the resolution of the capture from 32 bits to 256 colors. Do anyone knows how to do that?
Is there any function that changes it?

256 colors is 8 bits per pixel. Hope that helps.

If I said you need to convert each 8:8:8 colour into 3:3:2, would you have any idea what I was talking about?

In other words, how much of the basics do you already know?

I know that 256 is 8bits; i`m trying to change a 32bits capture to a 8 bit capture

I`m recently programing in c++, i`m relatively new. If you are trying to explain me the RGB, don`t boder.
What i`m trying to do is changing a 32bits captur to a 8 bits capture, thats all, you don`t have to be so agresive to me.
