I ask because I am currently developing a forum. I just wonder how good my knowledge of web development and PHP in particular is.
And also, have you ever tried to sell it? =)

I agree with ShawnCplus: Unless you make your forum something really special and create special functions that a PHPBB or similar don't have, then you might have a chance of actually selling it.
But, nevertheless, I have created my own forum (or rather, I was working on it, then something else came up). It only takes basic PHP/HTML/MySQL knowledge, you just need to apply it correctly, know you SQL and fit it all together. I worked on it for a week and had it nearly up and running.
